Default b16a Overheating> Rapid temp gauge increase. Need help QUick.

I was driving pretty hard today, and notice that my temp gauge started to go up real fast i d say prob 30 seconds at most and it got to the top, so i turned the car off, waited like a minute and turned it back on and the gauge was where it suppose to be. Later that night after driving hard again same thing happened,

So it only goes up when i beat on the car and it instantly goes down when i turn the car off and on., any suggestions?

Ive got a 91 civic b16.

maybe it could be the waterpump telling you its going out, or maybe something along the lines of your coolent system is a weak link. I had this problem on my old b16 hatch, all i had to do when it started to overheat was turn on the heater for a bit and it would lower the gauge back to normal.....

Well if it isnt those ^ and the radator is not clogged up (somehow) then it would probably be the temp. sending unit. Espacially cause if you turn it off and back on and all the sudden its running temp again. When the gauge says its hot does the engine seem like its really hot?

my friends car had the same prob, it occured after changing a heater core hose. We think its an air pocket in the system. There is a bleeder valve next to the top radiator inlet on your cyl head. try bleeding it....

other over heating probs can be thermostat, fubared radiator, coolant fan, lack of coolant.

The engine was really hot, the fan didnt go on though when it was that hot and stting in idle....should it have gone on? ANyways im gunna check to see if the fan works, and see if any thing is disconnected.

Im pretty sure it s not the water pump i new oem one was put in 2 weeks ago.

lol?

Guess if you hadnt found your unplugged fan, id be right.

Apparently i overestimated your extensive diagnosis and research of your problem.... Next time ill suggest something more asinine like your fan plugs, or maybe even ask if you added water/coolant to your system...
