Default Engine transplants for a 1978 Civic

What would be my options if I wanted to transplant a new engine into a 1978 Civic?

If I couldn't do the swap myself, how much do you think something like this could run?

Thanks.

Well, its really just a thought. I saw a decent looking body on eBay, and it piqued my interest. So I'm really just trying to figure out my options.

I realize anything is possible, but I mean, is this realistic? Would it be particularly hard to do? Is there a specific engine that would fit more easily?

The world is your oyster - whatever you want to swap. I know nothing about Honda's older than '84, but I doubt there is a bolt in swap (if that's what you are after), that has any kind of performance.

Anything you do is going to be 1000% custom.

Got welder?

Better start asking around on the old Civic forums...

ZC would probably be decent in a 1st gen. b16 or b18 would be great. it's going to have to be done custom of course, lots of work. not as easy as a mount kit like in a 4th gen. search for someone else that's done one for advice.

Hmmm, okay, thanks guys. This sounds like it might be more money than I was hoping to spend. I'll keep asking around though.

Nice legwork.
Civic1200 was the place I was thinking of, but couldn't come up with it.

there was an article in one of the import mags a few months back about a chick and her bf or husband that both had 1st gen civics. hers was a hatch and his was a wagon. he had a 86-88 integra motor in it, and hers had a jdm city turbo motor in it. i imagine both had to have a good deal of custom work to make them bolt in. i've seen pics of a couple 1st gen civics with b-series swaps in them.

i just sold my 1975 Civic 4-speed on ebay for $300... sad to see it go.

If they can fit a prelude motor into a mini.. You can fit something good into that..
