I have been having a problem with a fluctuating idle that goes from 500-1500. I have had surging problems at stoplights when the AC is on. The idle will range from very high when the car is cold to approx. 500 at a stop (causing the car to shake and occasional stalling). I replaced spark plugs, fuel filters, carburetor, motor mounts. I would be grateful for any suggestions.

 

it might be that your alternator is not charging correctly... the ac sucks alot of power at idle. Check all your grounds before you out go buy a new alternator.

 

My mechanic checked the alternator and grounds. Any other suggestions?

 

I...as well as almost every other accord owner on this forum has had the same problem. Search function is your friend...but i'll save you some time. Check and clean your iacv (intake air control valve) or whatever its called...a few good sprays of card cleaner does the trick...and then if it stills idles rough (low) adjust the idle screw.
