Default 2 4" mids behind the center dash area better for imaging?

I was thinking of building a little tiny box for my extra 4" speakers that I had laying around and putting them in back of where the HU goes so I can have better sound imaging upfront.

Does this sound like a good addition or just a waste of time?

pretty much what he said. make sure its done properly and i would suggest only use one of the drivers jsut because its easier for placement.

another thing to consider for this project is the time alignment of the front stage. what does the rest of your system consist of?

I, personally wouldn't do it. Unless you have a processor creating a center channel, it will tend to drag your image. It will kill any effect of a far right or far left sound, so I think that while it may help your center stage, it would really hurt stage width...

you never know until you try, but I would optimize the installation and setup of the other speakers first...

Id say to run it at a much lower volume if you're going to do this too to try and maintain as much of the width as posible, if there is any.

Almost forgot about the volume, thanks.

My system doesn't consist of high quality parts really, just using stuff I have around. Here is the plan, use my 7 band EQ with sub control, hook up an amp to the fronts, hook up an amp to rears using the sub control so the crossover can block out the highs to the 6x9's and use my last amp hooked up to the rear channel to control the center channel (this is a very low power amp).

I'll just make a little tiny inclosure using some MDF and place it behind the HU.

I guess I'll give it a try. Remember this is just using the spare audio equipment I already have. I'm not going to go out and buy all the best stuff as of yet, just trying to experiment and have fun with what I got.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone.
