B16a transmission from 88-91 JDM Civic Good training for road course work?
Trying to take the plunge on doing a conversion to hydro. First is a B16A tranny hydro? The gear ratios are what I am looking for and I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the tranny good or bad. As my sig below states want to put it in a B18c 88 CRX Si and I will be transferring over the Quaife LSD into if this is a good choice. Thanks.

Is that english?
I think what you are trying to say is that you have a B16 cable tranny in your CRX with a quaife in it and you want to put a hydro B16 in to replace it. You also want to transfer the quaife drom the cable tranny, to the hydro tranny correct?
You can do the hydro tranny without a problem if you get the new updated mounts from Hasport. I don't think your quaife will fit in the new tranny though. Correct me if I'm wrong someone, but I don't think it will fit the new hydro tranny!
Not sure what your asking but the B16 Tranny should mate to the B18C. If you got the J1 or S1 the gear ratios should be the same ast the B18 tranny only difference is the final drive is only a 4.40 instead of a 4.78. Why do the conversion to a hydro if you don't have to.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that internal parts, such as synchro kits, for the cable transmissions were in very short supply. Converting to hydro would, if nothing else, extend your parts supply.

First my I had a brain fade typing my topic title. OK, YS1 cable trannies are getting harder to find and the synchros are not the stoutest from what I have heard. I have a cable YS1 in my car with a toasted 3rd gear synchro due to a inexperienced (no rev matching) former owner. GSR and ITR trannies have stouter synchros but are hydro trannies. Hasport makes a conversion where you slap in the hydro tranny but it is mechanical (cable) actuated. Looking to get a stouter tranny in the car that way.
However I have looked at the gear ratios on the GSR tranny (it should be a Y80 mated to a B18C1 correct?) and it is not as close as the YS1 gear ratios. A 1998-2001 Type R has a B18C5 engine mated to a S80 Helical LSD. I like those gear ratios but dang it I don't need the LSD.
A 96-00 Honda Civic VTi, 92-96 Del Sol, and CRX SiR have a B16A engine and either a S80, Y80, S4C, or Y21 tranny all supposedly with gear ratios starting at 3.230 and ending in fifth with 0.848 A GSR Y80 tranny while starting with a 3.230 quickly gets "longer" in the ratio spread ending in 0.787.
I want the closer gear ratios and in fact am going to spring for a custom ring gear of I guess 4.88. I was wondering if anyone had any problems with the B16A or is it stout enough along the lines of GSR but better ratios. I am not going to swap gear ratios in that I want my tranny H1 legal (yeah the itch is getting worse).
I only have to buy one different mount to do the hydro conversion. Two, the quaife is suppose to be able to transfer to the other trannies (b series) especially if I have a custom ring gear. Quaife America's technical department after viewing diagrams and conferring has confirmed that for me twice now. Nice folks. Hasport has said the axles will work too.
Closer ratios in the 3, 4, and 5th gear range with the 4.88 final drive= hauling ***. Anyone have experience with the trannies that come out of a B16A Honda? By the way if my reference material is wrong and you have a link to something more correct please post it. Thanks.

I've done a few online searches : there are some who believe the ITR
tranny has better synchros -- and some who believe it's "ITR-hype"
I think the conclusion was, it was hype. There is no difference.
The YS1 cable internals are hydro internals -- synchros are the same.

The ITR tranny's LSD could be sold for $300-$500, if you buy the 98 JDM version
you get the 4.785 FD.

Also, ATS makes a final drive of 4.928 -- if going custom is going to cost
you a lot -- you could consider this.

Transferring over the quaife --> look at their application list.

Looks like GS-R/ITR trannies will not accept the unit you have
(unless you feel like swapping over countershaft parts etc etc)
If you feel like selling the YS1 -- I'll buy it!

And the 4th/5th gears are the same as the US GSR......

After talking to OPM Motorsports I am going to take the plunge on an ITR tranny and do the conversion. Plunge now taken. Got the JDM final drive ITR tranny. Close ratios and nice final drive. Woohoo.
