Dynamat install alternative?
Ok so I drive a Honda, and my interrior is loud
I have a roll of 13 sqr ft. of Dynamat, and have been putting off doing this for a wile. One of the reason is adding weight, the damn thing weighs like 10lbs. So I was wondering if anyone has installed it to the back of the door panels insted of to the actual metal of the door. So they could be taken off on come track day.
Anyone have any major objections to this notion???????????

Yes I do , and so will you if you do , dynamat is used to take the "ring" out of sheetmetal, it has to be attatched to it to do that, also used to seal up the door better, [to make a better speakerbox] also has to be attatched to door to do this.if all you want to do is lower the noise floor then just line your door panel with automotive carpet underlay.
hope this helps.

Basically anything you do to your car to lower the noise floor will increase the weight of the car. C'mon, its only 10lbs but you'd have a quieter car so i think its more than worth it.
as far as being able to remove the dynamat i'm sure you could do that beffore you go to the track but be prepared to spend a few hours doing so and expect to buy new dynamat as its a one time use product if you apply it properly. Essentially dynamat uses mass loading to lower the resonant frequency of the metal panels in the car.
what i would suggest is laying the dynamat on the bottom of the car under teh carpeting and then getting some carpet underpadding and laying that over top of the dynamat. after that you can lay down teh carpet and you should have a significant reduction in the road noise.
hope this helps.

Well thanks for the responses, that was pretty much what I was figuring. I was already planning on laying some carpet padding on the floor and panels. It will be quiet when get done with it.

10 lb. of extra fuel in my car makes me about 1/10 sec. slower, and in autocross that can make the diff. between 1st and 2nd evan 3rd or 4th.
