D16Y8 & D16Y7 difference????
i have a 98 ek that i recently bought and the stamp on the block says D16Y8. my friend also has a 98 EK but his motor says D16Y8. what im asking here is what is the difference between the two motors... does my motor have more HP is my motor just want to know the difference between the two motors thanks. sorry but i dont really deal with D sereis motors just want to know thanks
im guessing you mean you have a y8 and he has a y7? you might wanna edit that

D16Y7:
SOHC Non-VTEC
106 HP
Long-Geared Economy Transmission (coupes and hatches)
Retarded plenum-less intake manifold
Retarded exhaust manifold with integrated catalytic converter
D16Y8:
SOHC VTEC
127 HP
Short-Geared Transmission for better acceleration
Better flowing Intake and exhaust manifolds
D16Y7:
SOHC Non-VTEC
106 HP

D16Y8:

The difference in the y7 and the y8 is that the y7 is from a DX, CX, or LX NON vtec sohc models. The y8 is from a EX model civic w/ sohc vtec. The y7 block has low compression pistons and the y8 ex has high compression pistons. Stock horsepower 96-00 civic y7=106 hp nonvtec and y8=127 hp w/ vtec.
