Default Inexpensive upgrades

I've recently inherited my grandmother's 91 Honda Civic Sedan DX that has 56k miles on it. It's been in the garage and in mint condition. I was thinking about selling it but the sentimental value is worth a lot more to me.

So, if you guys don't mind, please give me some feedback on some upgrades to give this Honda some kick. Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks.

What are you looking to accomplish with the car?

You know this is the situation that you don't hear (read) alot here on Honda-Tech. If it is really in "mint" condition and has that many miles on it i'd say you should put it away in a storage shed and let it sit for 10-15 years. Think about how much a 91 civic will go for when it is a collectable. Just something to think about.

Ok, the car has 56k but come on, my grandmother drove it.

What I'm trying to accomplish... good question. I guess what I'm trying to get at is if there's some bolt-ons, suspension etc. to put in the car. Not looking for a dragster or street machine just some sleeper parts.

I did leave out one important part. It's an AT.

I'll post pics later.

Just do the header, intake and exhaust. Maybe a decent set of shocks and springs, but that's about it.
I saved my original parts...so I can put them back if I need to.

sell for a TON and grab a manual...

or you could do a manual swap.

personally if its mint i would just leave it alone. if you want to mod a crx buy one thats doesn't have 56k original miles that was driven by your grandma and im sure has a near perfect interior. don't ruin it!!!

Leave it be and drive a VERY VERY reliable car for a VERY VERY long time. When the car gets in the upper 100k miles, then look into mods...

So no engine mods, no suspension mods.

buy an intake for it, so when you drive around it sounds a little better and then be done with it.. like said before that car will never be fast without major money and work done to it.

mods are easy and cheap if you hunt for used parts. i have a '91 with 45000 on the speedo. got it when my grandmother give up driving. most aftermarket parts for the('89-'91) hatch and crx will fit. i have custom 2.25 exhaust from the cat back with a flow-thru muffler and a 22 in. resonator, custom 2.5 in. intake with a k&n filter. working onmpfi conversion with z6 intake mani and tb. an a6 head milled .025, y8 head gasket, edelbrock cam gear, hedman header into a test pipe. i expect about 20 hp gain for less 1000 bucks. if you want to stick with you "D" d15b2 that is thentake a look at these sites:http://sohchonda.com/ipw-web/bulletin/bb/

You say its a DX,so do a MPFI swap. Its popular and not really hard to do,some wiring is involed. It's inexpensive and will give your DX some kick compareing to the Duel point.good luck (56K is rare...chairish it)

be very careful with nitros on a stock d15b2 the rods will let go at around 150 hp, in stock form stay below a 45 shot. even then you may run into problems.

the d series can handle up to about 220hp before they start to let go. 150 is a little bit underestimating the power it can handle

the d15b2 has thin rods thinner than the d16's have and yes an a6 can be taken up to 220hp from what i've been told the d15's can only handle up to 150hp. the info i've gotten is from people who only build up and race D's and their using the d15b7 which came out in '92.

I used to have a REd 91 Dx Auto Sedan, they're fun cars if you don't mind not being really fast. I lowered mine on some Suspension Techniques springs (I've still got those sitting around here somewhere...) and put in an AEM ram intake, Nology spark wires, and had a custom exhaust made. I was really happy with that car man, but keep in mind; with that motor/tranny setup, it'll never be all that fast without major work.

Oh, and I put on some 15" Rota Slips with 195/50 tires....made for a nice look.
