Default Need suggestions on turbocharger selection

Ok, the go kart project has decided that it wants to be turbo.

The kart is carbureted right now, but I've ordered megasquirt so it will be fuel injected here soon.

Engine is a 500cc kawasaki EX500.

I've been looking at the IHI RHB3/RHB5 but I can't seem to find any compressor maps for these bad boys. I was also pointed towards a Garrett T12 but I can't find those maps either. I'd also like to know the boost level of the internal wastegates these turbos have off their respective OEM vehicles (Chevy Sprint, VW TDI I think respectively).

Any suggestions as to a turbo to use? The engine has a 10.8:1 CR so I'll probably have to keep boost at a reasonably low level. (8-10psi with race fuel).

Dustin

I've never fooled with internal wastegates... but I would assume there is no good way to lower their boost level?

you sure that is what comes on the TDI's is a GT12 cause i don't think it is

a ko3 from a AWD engine code would probably work very well in 4 th gear with a slightly larger version of this turbo i can hit 10 psi by 2500 rpm's

and you could get one for like 100 bucks and they are very durable just make sure to get 2000 or up

I was just reading up on Vesis (VW dealer tech program).

The 99+ TDIs use variable vane turbochargers, and don't have wastgates.

I'm not sure about the pre 99 TDIs.

Ok, it may be the European TDIs have the variable vane turbos, and we got turbos with normal WGs.

Manual and Vesis says the turbo runs 1700 to 2200 Mbar...you can convert that...I get something like 2.2 bar, which seems an awful lot.
