Default Denso/ Mistuba starter compatability

I am trying to replace my starter on my '94 coup ex. It had a Denso dx4r4 12 volt starter, when I asked at the junk yard they gave me a Mitsuba P30 12 volt and said that it would work, but I can't seem to get the bolts to line up in order to install it. Are these two starters really compatible? Am I just being retarded?

If they dont line up then they are wrong.. go back to where you got it and also try to take the bad one and make sure its the same

Alright so I got the 'right' starter motor (new) and installed it, and now it will start however for about 2-3 seconds before it starts there is a horrible grinding noise. (truely horrible, like someone threw a bolt in a blender) A small puff of smoke even emerged on one start~ I rechecked the lbs/ft on the mounting bolts and that was okay... any idea what's wrong?
