D16Y8 motor on my 91 dx which axles to use
no.
You swap the engine and keep your transmission or swap to a different 88~91 tranny. 88~91 trannies are cable type.
The Y8 tranny is hydrolic so you don't use it.
If you do plan to use it, then prepare for some custom fab work.
There is no kit on the market at this time to convert a D-series hydro clutch to cable.
So, you use your cable tranny that came in your car and the axles that came with it and NOT the Y8 ones.
I have tried Z6 axles in my car. Yeah - they go in and everything. The problem with those is that the cup diameter right where the splines go into the hub is larger than the 88~91's. They locked up on the 88~91 knuckle and would NOT turn. Expect the same problems from the Y8 axles.
