how would i know if the ac compresor still works?

i push the ac button and the inside part doesnt affect. but the fan on the condensor spins. does this mean the compressor is dead?

so your clutch is not engaging? could be a multitude of things

check for 12V at the relay / plug if so then check your pressure switch

THere is a small clutch inside the compressor. It engages so the compressor spins with the pulley.

It will not engage if your low on R134a or R12.
or electrical issues with it.

Its not inside the compressor. but its outside. The clutch engages to connect to the pulley which is turning when the engine is on. So what he was refering to is the clutch not engaging or not grabbing to the pulley.

so if im out of ac since last summer.. the middle pulley wont spin with the outside that holds the belt, right?

it wont spin because it can burn up the compressor, is that true? someone at work mention to me because i asked and they said it will spin after i refill it.

anything else to let me know???

yes thats true. you really need to find out why you lost freon in the first place if you have a leak or whatever.
