I can't believe my eyes... a rice-free magazine
I haven't had a chance to give it an in depth analysis but the new BOOST magazine put out by Car and Driver seems like a breath of fresh air compared to all of the other zines out there. I first saw it and though great... another magazine dedicated to Turbos but it's not that at all.
Like I said I just thumbed through it but I saw some interesting articles that I can't wait to read and absolutely no rice ads for neon kits, body kits, big wings, etc. There was one article on drifting but eh... what can you do , the worlds not perfect

I don't know... it is after all a Car And Driver publication so I'm hoping they steer clear of the ff persona and keep it pure. Like C&D, it seems they only have adds from the big corporations (car mfg.'s, tires, electronics, etc.) so I don't think they need advertising money from the diminutive stunna products.
Larry Webster the editor (who also races a CRX w/ the SCCA) portrays a brite future... one where they will "feature tuned and modified cars with in-depth technical articles" in the same honest manor that C&D does.

I also bought the first issue of Boost and thought it was great. It was informative and unbiased. I really like Sport Compact Car also, and this months issue of SCC is amazing; they have a time trial event in the states with over 30 cars, and you should see the top five, its nutty. The have a nice assortment of cars including Honda, Acura, Nissan, Ferrari, and Lotus. Check it out.

speed is pretty good, though they seem to have done a limited run on them, as it cannot be found ANYWHERE here in town.
i definitely like the "counter-rice" movement going on with these two mags being released.

Isn't it great... a mag geared towards the true motorsports enthusiast and not the stunnas of the world

Travis, if you're ever gonna be at Summit or BeaveRun for the Expo, let me know, I'll lend you my copy of Speed.
By the way, the 240 is running great, and already I wish I could swap the engine into my car

nothing but technical stuff about legal real race cars (even amateurs).</TD></TR></TABLE>
GRM and Sportscar are geared toward motorsports enthusiasts. i can't stomach SCC or any of its variants that focus mostly on street cars.

Well yeah, I guess you're right about that one... I was thinking more along the lines of the mainstream mags and my use of the word "motorsports" was out of context from the true meaning of motorsports. I probably should have used sport car... sport compact at least
You definitely can't beat the likes of GRM or SC for true motorsports coverage

I've read Grassroots a couple of times. It focussed a lot on autocross and legal racing events and whatnot. I prefer SCC since I drive a street car that is never tracked. To each his own

Get Racecar Engineering if you want technical coverage. The problem is they are like $10 a piece...with an SAE membership.

good to hear, although i told you those damn things were expensive to set up properly.
i won't be at the expo, as i've never even owned a single honda, and the beave is just way too damn far from kansas.

Read the re-printed article in the current Car and Driver about the Opel Station Wagon. Then read the follow up portion that explains the fall out from that article, and you'll see the problem with all of the big car magazines.
In quick summary... about 30 years ago Car and Driver absolutely panned this poor Opel. They hated everything about it, and said so in very colorful words. It's hysterical to read I might ad. So what happened? GM, who owns Opel for those who don't know, not only pulled all of their ads from that magazine, but pulled ads from every one of their subsidiaries, from every magazine that comes from the same publisher as C&D. The example they gave was something like along the lines of them pulling an ad for an Amana washer and drier from Good Housekeeping.
The point being that the big car magazines have too much invested with the big car manufacturers to really speak their minds. I'll trust an article in GRM WAY before I invest anything into an article in Car and Driver or Road and Track.
