Default Turbo Automatic?????

Being the noob that I am, less educated in the world of finely tuned automobiles, I have a noob type of question for you almighty car gods...

Can an automatic tranmission have a turbo kit? And if so, how does it work if differently?

I appriciate anyones input on the matter stated above...

Thankyou

as far as i know (or have read) you dont need anything special. autos can be good for turbo because you can hold the brake down and build up the boost, but the 5spd will always win. i *think* the honda automatics are fairly weak so you'd have to look into upgrading. personally, im going to do a manual conversion just because i think it would be a whole lot easier to deal with.

Nope.

The only reason an auto would be beneficial for turbo is because it can shift faster than you can, thus keeping the throttle at WOT always, and the turbo pretty much always spooling.

Yes, an auto can have a turbo kit, and it functions the same as a kit for manual.

No, it is true that you can becuase there is a load on the engine. It probably wont SPOOL the turbo while you're still breaked but itll start to change the mg/hg.

To the poster: Before you spend any more time thinking about boost, get a reality check and learn a LOT about cars. Spend time in the FI section.

BTW how do you have 162 hp?

Well, that number is probably wrong due to my lack of knowledge... but, I've got a CIA, high flow fuel injectors, a AEM pulley kit, and exhaust. I just figured it would be some where around there?

the high flow fuel injectors won't really help unless your pushing a lot more air into the cylinder to have the need for more fuel. have you thought about fuel management for a turbo? you'll really need to go with a stand alone system such as hondata, emanage, uberdata, EMS....you're looking a good bit of cash for that alone...tuning is the most important part too!

Well, I'm not really getting a turbo kit or anything I just wondered if in the future I do happen to get one, if I would have any problems... I'm only 17 and work very part time at a Walgreens so a turbo kit is not only far to technical for me, but way out of my price range.

thanks for the input though!

cough..AUTO SUPRA TURBO MK iV COUGH..

they start making boost before the launch, and there's other reason why the auto turbo supra is faster than 5 and 6 speed manual model in the 1/4

Actually, the LX is rated at 130 hp at the crank from the factory. The EX is rated at 145 hp. Take away 15-20% (amount of power lost in the drivetrain) of the 130 hp, and thats roughly how much horsepower is being delivered to the wheels.

Pulleys are probably good for 1-3 whp (but let the engine rev up slightly faster), exhaust is maybe 5 whp (the stock LX exhaust is pretty restrictive), and the cold air intake (I assume thats what you mean by CIA) is good for another few hp. High flow injectors won't do any good now, but will be beneficial if a turbo is in your car's near future.

He's right if you don't believe it already... I have the same car and it makes something like 100HP to the wheels.... Intake and exhaust don't do crap other than add mental satisfaction to a hopeless car [I know cuz I have them on mine], neither does high flow injectors when you're not ramming more air in.. jus running richer in your motor and poorer in your pocket.

I would save up money for a tranny swap and then a H motor [all together maybe $5000 more or less for all the parts and labor]... don't bother boosting your motor right now it's a waste of money.

I didn't mean they didn't do nothing, it was just a figure of speech.. but seriously.. I/H/E alone doesn't do much for your car...... however, coupled with other mods they are a must

You will be fine until you decide to run more than about 8 lbs. of boost. My trans began slipping at around 10 psi. but in first gear only. BTW, I have 3 psi. of boost when I brake stand so I'm at 1/3 of max boost off the line. Not too bad if you ask me.

you may want to look into an auto tranny cooler because when you turbo you are going to be more likely to spin it a bit faster
