I have a simmilar question, and didn't want to start another thread. So I hope no1 minds me posting this here.

As far as differences goes from a jdm type r head to ao usdm type r head, I just assume their the same, but then again im just assuming? or really just taking a wild guess!

I have a 97 gsr and myself have tought of the possibility of a type r head, jdm or usdm.
the gsr as many if not all of you know redlines at 8k, the type r I just know its just over 8k, So my question is, If I was to put a jdm or usdm type r head on a gsr would it allow it to redline just over 8k rmp just like the type r or would it still be just 8k rpm's? and would there be any advantages to having a type r head? advantages such as turbo or nos or any mod for that matter or would I just be better off with the gsr head, or would it make any difference at all?

I do know that the type r uses the same block cast but different internals as the gsr, so that means that the gsr and type r have same stroke and bore, right?

The ITR head has a mild port job from the factory, lighter intake valves, different valve springs and lost motion assemblies and cams.

search a little harder in the archives....

the only thing different between the jdm and the us itr head is the cams.
depending on if u get the ctr or the itr

Honda never did any different porting or anything like that just for japan

Im no expert, but if the only difference in jdm and usdm is the cams, then I would try to get just the cams from the jdm head (if possible that is) and install it... uhhh wait a minute, nevermind, im a moron! I was thinking you had the usdm head wanting to go to jdm head, but you have an ls. In that case, in my opinion (but remember im a moron!) I would just get the usdm type r head and get aftermarket cams if it would be to any advantage.

well, the usdm head is about $300 more than the jdm, and the jdm comes with a port and polish job.

Holy **** $300 more the the usdm? I thought it would be the other way around.

Im not sure but I think that both jdm and usdm come with the same port and polish job, like AK94GSR said...

----------------------------

The difference in port and polish is that the ITR jdm or usdm does have a port and polish job where the gsr, ls, gs... jdm or usdm doesn't. I think?..

But hey, if the jdm type r head is cheaper then go for that! ****, I would, hell I just might!

I want to jump in on this. Because I feel like there is some misleading information being spread. I want someone to jump in on this that knows what they are talking about 100% instead of guessing.

From my knowledge of searching.

The cams are not any different at all. I thought the only difference was higher compression. Which basically has nothing to do with the head. They both have the same port/polish job on them.

Please someone jump in on this that knows what they are talking about. I hate it when there is info all through a post that is bouncing around with no concrete answer.

96 & 97 JDM ITR heads have the same cams as 97/98/99 USDM cams. 00 USDM cams are the same as 98Spec JDM ITR cams and JDM CTR cams, they basically have 3 degrees more duration on the intake cam, the exhaust cams for all ITR/CTR are the same regardless of year/country. 96 spec ITR heads had a hand port and polish, 98spec ITR were machine polished. Get which ever head is cheaper, the difference in them all is so small that you would never notice it anyway!
