Default my car took a dump. help!

i was leaving my house got to the end of my street, stopped at the sign, turned right and i was going maybe 10mph, i had almost let the clutch out all the way (in first) when the car started jerking back and forth some and i heard some clunking noises, then a faint smell (cant really describe it) then the car shut off and the check engine light came on. i rolled off the side of the road and parked. now the car wont start and the check engine light stays on. i dont know if it has any relevance but i can push the clutch in and shift through all the gears.

if you guys could give me some ideas for what it might be i would really apreciate it. its a 93 coupe w/ b16 just to let you know.

I dont think anyone here is going to be able to help you with what you are describing, sounds like somthing in the engine are???? being able to shift all the gears doesnt really mean anything, sounds like your trans is fine, if the check engine lights is staying on, sounds like you have thrown a code in your ecu, and the only sensor that has anything to do with the trans area, would be your speed sensor, and that wouldnt cause your car to not start. hope you find your problem, but sounds like you need someone to look at it for you. Wish I could help...

well, i tried using a paper clip to check the code but all i was getting was a solid light. im guessing that i couldn't make the connection with the paper clip. is there any other way to do it? anything else i can use?

check for spark... your distributor's probably fried... especially if it's an older car. pull off your dist. cap and look around inside...

make sure you try a few different parts in the jumper when checking the codes
cause sometimes if it isnt in the right postion it wont flash the CEL

you need to check the cel to know whats wrong most likely. Your probably useing the wrong plug, theres two up there.. use the SMALLER one. just stick the paper clip in there.
whats the car doing? turing over but not starting? make sure the fuel pump is turning on and make sure you are getting spark... you need to eliminate some variables before you try to figure out whats wrong

well whats really troubling me is whatever went wrong it caused my car to quit running while i was driving. could a distributer problem make my car shut down while im rolling down the road?

im pretty sure i have the right plug.

yes... i'm currently on the hunt for distributor. the car i'm working on is a civic. older car... '91. anyways, the owner was getting on it, car started to run crappy, died out and won't start. cel stays on all the time... just like you described. i checked for spark, 2 or 4 fired. so i decided it's not the ignitor. i thought maybe a rotor, pulled of the distributor cap, and all the guts in the distributor disentigrated in my hands. just about everything behind the distributor cap was fried. so... sounds kinda like what's happening to your car... give it a shot it's only 3 screws.

ok, so the car started up but it was idling horribly and the check engine light came back on. it was fluctuating from about 1500 rpm to maybe 2200 really quickly, didn't sound good at all. when it stops raining im going to take the distributor off.

Finding out what code the CEL is would be a good help. Honda put it there for a reason

If the paper clip isnt working, just cut the plug off and connect to the 2 wires.

code is 14.

the IAC valve is bad. possibly a loose pin in the ecu. im going to replace the valve and see how it drives from there.
