Default HF Tranny To do or not to do?

I have a 1988 DX HB that I aquired, and a 95 d16z6 with a y8 manifold, I am putting in it. It is just gonna be a beater car that I want to get good gas mileage, and want it to be some what quick. I was wondering if I put a HF tranny in it, if it would be a big dog, and kill accereration. Also what kind of gas mileage increase would it yeild. So basicly would it be worth it or should I just stick with a DX tranny.

Also does anyone know if a 92-00 clutch will work with a 90-91 tranny, I know it won't work with a 88, but I have several 90-91 trannys to my disposal.

92-00 clutch will work as long as you use the 92-00 flywheel.
