Alpine for sound. Don't go by looks cuz you'll be sorry. Alpine head units kick *** in general!

most likely no amps for now gonna go for the bare min. for now and slowly build

i found some good poineer speakers that were discontinued that were goin for 70 bux wit 250 peak pwr and 100 rms so i think ima pick those and set those up wit the alpine still unsure

Plays audio CD/CD-R/CD-RW
12 FM/6 AM presets

CD frequency response: 5-20,000Hz

Considering a "normal" human's auditory system is only sensitive to frequencies between 20-20000Hz, I would say the Alpine's CD frequency response is more than adequate. The S/N is also around the standard. The FM sensitivity is a little on the low side. Most units are over 10 dB.

I've actually had the Alpine 9803 and found it to be a good sounding and well made headunit. I've also owned the more expensive Pioneer DEH-7400MP and found it to be less ergonomically sound (the buttons were too small). Also, the build quality of the Pioneer was inferior to the lesser costing Alpine. I'm currently using an Alpine 9811 which has more features (time delay, 4V preouts, etc).

get the best deck you can afford.

if you ever plan on getting amps down the road, then go for the alpine. ( for the higher pre out voltage)

If people picked decks based on looks, then every one would have those silver- disco -panasonics from a few years ago.

I have gone from Alpine (which my last 6 decks were) to Eclipse and I am definilty happy with the change. As far as the options for the topic, Alpine all the way.

My current Eclipse sells for $600 and the Alpine before that was a $600 deck. For a brief time I had Kenwood of the same price range (but that wasn't even worth mentioning.)

BTW, replacement faceplates run for about $130 new. Also if it has the CEA rating on it, it is definitly a 2004 model.
