Default overtensioned timing belt?

yesterday i replaced the timing belt, balancer belt, water pump, and the accesory belts. everything went fine started right up and runs great. the only thing is now i can hear a whinning noise from that area. its not loud but its noticiable. i think its the timing belt but i DONT think i overtensioned it because its not that tight. but anyway the noise increases with rpms and one of the belts (not sure if its the t belt) squeaks for a split second when i start it up cold. so the main question i have is ......if the timing belt is too tight would it make that noise? or is it because its a new belt? i also got some oil/water on the tensioner pulley but i wiped it off as best i could.

btw this is an h23 with the MANUAL tensioner

Thanks,
David

the squeeking for shure is your accesory belt and its not going to get better just tighten it up a bit more . and the thing about water/oil geting on the tensioner pulley you should be ok as long as you cleaned it up.

the accesory belts are tight so i doubt its those. i tried to clean up the tensioner pulleys for the t belt and balancer belt the best i could but it could still be slippery. and what is causing the whinning noise???

thanks,
David

timing belt has teeth and it will most likely not be the problem, tighten the alternator belt just alitle bit more and i bet it will go away..

but the t belt tesioner doesnt have teeth. and i already tried tightening the alt belt. so could the whinning noise be the new t belt?

thanks,
David

I have the same whine your talking about, and from what I've read, it's probably your new timing belt being a little tight. My engine builder specifically put it on slightly tighter than recommended because with the manual tensioner he said the belt would probably stretch some, and with the crower valve train I put in he said it would be good insurance.

so do you suggest i loosen it a little or wait a couple weeks to see if it stretches and goes away? like i said before its not loud and i can deal with it im just concerned with it breaking and ******* up my motor.

Thanks,
David

Mine has been running for 12k, and it still whines a little, but not as much as it did when it was new. I'm not touching mine. I guess you can adjust it on the car fairly easily if you don't like the whine.
