Oh no!!! Not this again!! Go the extra mile and go b-series, you won't regret it. If this is out of the question, I would go zc then. I have torn up many a SOHC VTEC, back when I had my ZC. With a stock zc expect about a 15.5-16.5, some have reported lower but I think that is realistic myself.
go with a D16Y8..a lot newer and more reliable than the old ZCs..they have better oiling systems and they have a bigger + growing aftermarket for hi po parts..plus there's only a 3hp diff between the two so it aint gonna be much faster if it is at all.
Save up the money and b16 it. It will be really worth it since all the money you spend on aftermarket barts will equal the price of a b16 any you have a faster and better engine to build. I just did a zc in a 91 si and was disapointed with it. I hung with it in my 89 dx with an exhaust and ICEMAN hot air. BTW I also have 240,000 miles on my car.

go with the ZC. it will be any easeir swap. plus it's a non-vtec motor and turbos just love non-vtec motors. the 89 si tranny will bolt right up to the zc and you get a whole extra 3hp! be sure to get the ecu though. if your thinking about getting just the motor, you can get the ecu (88-89 integra) from junk yards for about $50. that's where i got my ecu. i've had both. i put a zc in my 89 crx si and it ran great. i was really pissed that a focus took me out in a head on. but i recovered with a 93 hatch si (soch vtec). now with i/h/e, all aem fuel system, and susepsion, i still dearly miss my crx. i'm now trying to sell my 93 so i can buy a 88-91 crx again or an 88-91 hatch. by the way...i'v driven the crx w/ a b16. yeah it was powerful, but i wasn't to in to the weight difference (under steer). there are ways around it, but i haven't driven one yet with that difference. these are just my thoughts, so have fun with what ever you decide.
Get the SOHC VTEC!!! The only wire you have to add is the vtec and you can use your stock intake manifold, distributor, injectors and tranny. I ran 14.7@93mph on street tires with the seats taken out. Last night I ran a crx si with a b16 and 60 shot and beat him by half a car. haha he probably didn't know how to drive, sucks to be him. I was still walking away before we stopped.

I would do ZC, but I used to have the D16Z6 in my EG and I loved it.
Dude that claimed to run 14.something, What mods do you have? I must say that the BS flag is going up unless you were running a very big shot of N20.
By the way, check out the ZEX web site. They have a project EG Civic with the D16 running in the 14's. http://www.zex.com

I'm dropping in a d16z6 with the proper OBD1 electronics in a few short days...I'll let you know what I think. I had a zc in my last hatch and I really wasnt impressed, so we'll see....
if you're gonna go sohc vtec, do yourself a favor and dont use the si ecu and RPM activated switch..if you want the full potential of the swap, use the p28 ECU...you'll need an adapter harness to do so...

i have done both of these swaps in my rex and here is my reveiw
d16z6 mods
gude head package, 89 teg pistons and a 50 shot of nos. ihe
14.2 at 100 mph on street tires stock p28 ecu
great motor but the sohc made it hard to tune the nos in right without the help of a second cam. total spent on motor and work 2500
new zc motor replaced z6 after fuel pump went out under nos run. OUCH!
b18a rods with 88 si pistons 8.6:1 comp home built turbo with junk yard t3
13.7 at 102mph on street tires. 10psi of boost. motor is being rebuilt for more boost and for more road race freindly use. going with a kkk k26 turbo for cleaner air. cost of original set up 1600.
if you are going to boost her (and i would) go with the zc. as far as i can understand by looking at her cam specs and flow numbers honda should have put heavier rods and pistons in it and slaped a turbo on it. it responds better to boost better than anyother h motor out there.
z6good motor. but the lak of a second cam hurts tuning. but if you go with vtec do this. d16a6 bottom and y8 head and intake. good na motor for the price. but then i cant get past the sohc.
are you going na or fi?

I have had all these swaps, and I now drive the b16a, I wouldn't want it any other way, except a b18c5. But if I could start again, I would of saved my paychecks and get the b16a and build from there. If you really can't get the b16a, then stick with the sohc vtec, because when a zc dist. or other lttle part go, they are a bit*h to find again, and expensive once you do.
my **** isn't bs....here look at what some people have done.
