I just wanted to know if any of you guys out there have had any problems with any Skunk2 valvetrain stuff...I've already run into some valve problems (a durability issue), but I've also heard from some RELIABLE sources that their retainers aren't too great either! The only things I haven't heard negative stuff about are their cams and springs...So EVERYBODY and ANYBODY who has run their stuff especially those who have used them for a good bit of milage...Throw your opinion up!!! Appreciate It!
Here are some valve tips after about 10K, They lost oil pressure for a couple minutes at low RPM, but I still expected more durability from a $400 set of valves!

They had some problems with thier valves mushrooming at the tip......just like yours. The problem has been fixed using a harder metal where the rocker comes in contact with the valve. You will most likely have a difficult time getting those valves out.
mr.wu had a set of there cams brake in half while driving arround one day. they wouldn't replace them either.

How did this happen? How long were the cams in the car?? Why did they not replace them???
I am running a skunk2 valvetrain, and this is not good to hear. I have heard bad things about the valves, but this is the first about cams. Pls list more info.

I had a set of their cams flake apart in my motor and cut up my rockers. Skunk replaced the cams and the rockers as well as giving me a free set of coil overs with drag launch springs.
OT, but what I found very interest over the weekend. A buddy of mine bought a set of JUN titanuim retainers. I just so happan to have a set of the Skunk2 here on the side. Sorta wanna to compare the two but the first thing I noticed was how the two wiegh very differently.
I meant, holding one on each finger tips was a huge differences. And I thought the Skunk2 was titanuim
.Then again, I was told it has to do with the grade of the metal or some BS crap.

well ther were probably about 10,000 miles on them. i wa driving on the freeway at about 3,500 rmps in 5th gear. the car just shut offf so i pulled over and poped the hood to see what happened and right away i could see that the cam gear was missing. i htough it just fell off but when i found it the whole end of the cam had broken off, destroying my cam gear, and smashing my valves. i talked to somone at skunk 2 and they told me that it was probably my fault for the cam breaking and they used wahtever stupid exscuses at the time. but none the less they said that they would give me a new cam if i could show them the original invoice for the cams, not even my reciept which i had, the actuall invoice that the shop gets. i was not able to get it because the shop had since closed down since then. so basically i was up **** creek with out a paddle.
at the time that my cam broke there was a thread just about these cams breaking, there were about 10 other people who had skunk2 cams break idenical to mine.
as for the rest of the valve train. i've never ran it so i dont have any persona feed back about that but i havn't ever heard to many good things either. i like running rocket martin springs and retainers because they are life time warranty

You guys are depressing the hell out of me, from the way it's looking I might end up having to buy a whole new valvetrain....After spending 2G's on Skunk2 ****, that is DEPRESSING! Has anyone had any problems with the retainers wearing out too quickly, breaking, or failing all together? <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by mr. wu »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

Did this do any severe damage to anyone's engines, or valvetrains other than T-Bone's or Mr. Wu's? Also how long ago did you guys buy and have this stuff break? I'm trying to figure out wether or not it was a glitch in time kinda thing like the valve failures or an ongoing problem!!!

The Skunk valves now have a friction welded wafer instead of the hardened tip and this is was done to address the valve mushrooming issue.
You can tell if you have the new valves coz the tips are magnetic whereas the old valves are not.

i had a skunk2 stage 1 intake cam snap on me after being in my motor for about a year. they woundnt replace it
i have the complete skunk2 valvetrain in my car now and its been in there or about 8 months with no problems at all though, no signs of wear or any mechanical problems, but then again my setup is pretty mild and i dont rev very high
i still have the skunk2 exhaust cam in my car as well

Could be installer error? I don't know but Skunk2 cams can make great power. I think they're good cams in terms of quality.

skunk2 cams are very well known for breaking in half. and the shiesty owner of skunk2 Dave will let you hang with your broken **** and not help out his customers. so if you buy skunk2 products and have a problem sorry for you but skunk will **** you over every time.

This **** is very depressing.....Currently I'm running skunk2 valve-springs and retainers...but not their cams or valves. I've noticed that OEM Honda valves have had much success with a mild cam upgrades and the other goods that go along with that....It seems that what I have read in the past that valve wise no one has really made a bullet proof valve or cam really....Also by the way have you guys been reading up on the current magazines articles within the last six months or so...It seems like Skunk2's EP3 civicSIRR they call it blows up.... or something horrible happens to it in every challenge it gets into. I love Skunk2 but damn gentlemen..
I don't know about you folks, but I think Skunk2 cams are awesome. I've ran the Stage 1's in my car with stock valvetrain for about 3000 HARD miles and I had NO problems whatsoever. When we took the cams out, they looked superb.
Another personal friend of mine ran Skunk2 valvesprings and Skunk2 retainers for over 40,000 miles and when he took them out, they were MINT condition. No wears at all.
Sure, things can go wrong. Hell, even the most expensive/quality parts can go wrong. Doesn't mean they're bad products. People who had problems were just very unlucky.

yeah i noticed that too. maybe their spending too much time on their marketing!
funny story,
the guy who replaced me lasted about 10 months, after he was fired he paid me a visit at dynamic autosports. the first thing he said was "how did you manage to work for dave for 4 years without killing him" i told him i had a high tolerance for pain, but i really liked what i did and the industry was like a family to me. the suprising thing was that he told me made $20,000 more a year to start than i did after 4 years.

OUCH!!! Well NOW you've got your own thing going and I've yet to hear ANYTHING bad about yours or Rocket's valvetrains!!! By the way, do you have an opinion your willing to share on S2 quality? As a former employee, not as a business owner in competition of course! LOL............
ALSO...... Dave if you are reading this and the owner of the company that made my valvetrain....YOU see the pic above, IS it possible to get my valves replaced without having to spend another $400.00??? I only ask because they didn't have alot of milage to have the wear and damage they have.........AND if your question is installation...they were installed by a master tech and the valve lash was correct and checked several times....

The only problem I had with the cams is that they made no power. For my motor. Other then that I've had no other problems with them. I sell these all day at my shop and no one has ever came back with a beef about there valve train.

Skunk2 uses supertech valves. They have since fixed this problem like Rocket said above.
