diffrence in dohc zc?
well im swapping a dohc zc and i dont wanna buy anything more then what i have to. right now i got a crx dx stock with d15b7 whats the diffrence between a first gen and second gen dohc zc? what else will i need to by for it? are the exhaust manifold the same size and everything?
i get most of my info about ZCs from http://www.thezcresource.com, and i just copied and pasted whats below from that site:
[most importers say that their engines only have 30-40,000 miles on them. The real truth, is that they don't know unless they had a front clip imported (not often at all). So, you should assume that ALL the wear items should be replaced. Here is a short shopping list.
Water Pump* Timing Belt* Timing Belt Tensioner* Front Main Seal* Rear Main Seal* Cam Seals* Valve Cover Gasket Kit Clutch/Pressure Plate/throw-out and pilot bearings* Spark Plug Wires* Spark Plugs* Distributor Cap and Rotor* Exhaust Gasket Oil Pan Gasket Axles (If you swap out the transmission) Alternator and AC Belt (If they aren't new) The items marked with a * should be considered mandatory to replace as they will be easiest to do with the engine removed from the car.]
and i also copied and pasted below from quickhonda.net and it says about swapping into DX:
[Swap Info:
The ZC bolts right in to the 88-91 Civic/CRX with no fabricating or welding. If your car is an Si or HF the wiring harness will hook right up with just the change of 2 wires on the distributor.
If it is a DX then some more significant wiring changes are necessary since the DX motor does not have MPFI (Multi Point Fuel Injection)
You can use the ECU from either the U.S. CRX Si, 88-89 Integra 5 speed, or the Japanese CRX Si which is what the ZC came out of anyway. The best choice would be the Integra one since it has more aggressive fuel and timing maps as well as a higher redline than our CRX Si ECU and its readily available, . The Japanese Si ECU is probally just as good but they are very hard to get and have a speed governor that is set at too low for most peoples taste.
The motor bolts right up to the stock motor mounts and to the tranny. While the HF tranny does bolt onto the ZC you will definatly want to use an Si tranny because of the much better gearing, you may even want to consider this if you have a DX.
Replace the clutch. As long as everything is apart it doesn't require any extra work to replace it. A performance clutch is reccommended because of the ZC's greater output.
The motor only weighs about 25 pounds more than the regular CRX one so handling is not affected.]

go here, it has alot of info: http://www.quickhonda.net/zc3.htm
you need what most importers call a 1st gen ZC (although the real 1st gen ZC is the brown valve cover model that bolts into the 1st gen CRX) - the "so-called" 2nd gen ZC is OBD1 and bolts into 92 up Civic - you will need to do the DPFI to MPFI wiring changes - everything else (transmission, axles, exhaust, etc.) from your DX will bolt right up
