Default Loss of power with header

Bought a Hytech header for my JDM h22, actually lost 12 HP and about 15 tq up top??? My motor is stock, could that be the problem?

Any ideas would be great!

I find that hard to believe. Due to what I've seen in the past. (only 2 different occasion with the Hytech), normally it will show big improvement over stock, sometimes as much as 10hp throughout. Then another 5-10hp more after tuning.

Then again, the header you have is not made for that motor hence why your not making the power or your dyno is screw up!

How is the header not made for the motor? It's not like he can run a B-series header on his H22A... You definately shouldn't lose power, especially that much. Something is very wrong. We need more specifics on the situation to help you figure out what is going wrong.

1. Did you dyno w/ your stock header right before installing the Hytech header?
2. If not, did you dyno with the stock header on a different dyno than you did with the Hytech?
3. What state of tune is your motor in? How old are the typical maintenance items (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, etc)?
4. Were you throwing any codes with the new header? (o2 sensor bad? damaged?)

Also please scan your dyno graph so we can see the A/F ratio and how the powerband looks.

Yeah, I dynoed 180 with stock header, then 166 with Hytech.
Same dyno
I have it tuned for nitrous, but, we tried bumping up the timing and n effect.
Everything I have is basically new.
I am running a lil rich.
I am throwing an 02 code, would that cause that much power loss though?

I will get a scan ASAP.

THe owner of the shop said I might need to do some head work, but would I need a progammable first? Or can I make power with CAMS etc..?

Thanks for helping

That is most unusual John is one of our neighbors (short fwy ride away). The products i have seen come from him have had great results. He has been known to make good power with honda headers. I would attribute some of the power loss to an 02 code but no all of it

HOw rich is a lil any a/f reading?

Can you post a dyno graph?

Well thats the thing.. I have always ran a lil rich, but WOT the 02 shouldnt matter too much, right?

Im by no means bashing Hytech, just wonderin if the header could be too big for a stock motor, and if I need to do something to bring the header to life?

A rare occurence but this does happen, a new header will work so much more efficiently it will actully increase the scavenging to the point where the engine will run lean.

Tune with a wideband

fix your o2 problem. Sounds like its killing your power. Hytech is known to be some of the best quality headers on the market, definately dont think thats the problem.
