Rattle during low RPM idling
I've got an '87 Civic 4dr Sedan with 143k miles on it.
For the last 4-5 months, there has been a progressively worse sounding rattling noise when driving in low gears or when idling.
If I have the car in neutral and let it idle, the noise is most noticable from within the cabin, and isn't as loud from the outside or from listening to the engine under the hood.
When I put my foot on the clutch, the noise goes away. I also don't notice the noise when driving on the highway in 3-5th gears.
Anybody have any ideas? Somehow I think the fact that the noise goes away after stepping on the clutch while in neutral is a clue.
Thanks!

I had an 85 hatch back in the day.
Sounds like the idle speed might be too low.
what's the status on your clutch?
Mine made some odd noises at idle and launch right before it went out.
Where's the rattling coming from? Have you pinpointed the source?

Most likely culprit is the heat shields on the cat and B pipe. (the bolts rust)
Or a broken exhaust system rubber hanger?
Run over anything lately?

Oh yeah, and the quickest, cheapest fix is a worm gear airplane/hose clamp.
Btu you'll need at least @2. and they gotta be really big to fit around the cat and resonator.
Put it up on a lift and you'll see what we mean.
