Default Spare Tire Well Sub-Box

Someone told me on the EG forum that there are ways to seal the spare tire area on my hatchback so that subs will work. I live in Houston along with 2398349587243987 thieves, so I'm trying to go as stealth as possible by mounting it in the well. Anyone have any idea how to seal the well? I've already got templates cut for my plywood that will lay over top, but what should I do to seal the top of the bare metal in the back and the bottom of the plywood together? Any input is appreciated.

Fibertglass is what you want to use, also do not use plywood ,use MDF.

You build a crib out of MDF,[ very dence partical board] this will be the sides ,front ,and back of box , the front and sides will only be 1 or 2 inces high, the back will have to go all the way to the bottom of well 2 to 4 inchs from back of car.

The top will have to flat and square,[so can put sub mounting board on to it] just like any sub box, but the bottom has to follow the contures of the floor and tire well.

When done, the crib should sit flat and evan on a flat surface [upside down]

The other end should fit into trunk/hatch floor and tire well tight [no rocking]

When crib is in place you should see a box with no lid and the bottom of box will be a sheetmetal tub.

Now fiberglass the bottom [sheetmetal] and up the inside of crib[dont forget to wax up the sheetmetal so you can pull crib and fiberglass out [after 2 or 3 layers of fiberglass] so you can put the the last 3 or 4 layers of fiberglass inside the box
a lot easier out of car.

Sorry I cant show you pix. but I don't have the hardwear to do that yet, but if you search I'm sure you can fid some.

hope this helps 94

I'm not afraid of a little work or anything, but **** all that. At least for now. I agree that would be a clean friggen install, but I went ahead and bought a box anyway. Guess I'll take my chances with the thieves. Thanks for the writeup though, I c/ped it to a notepad file for future reference.
