'grade 8' versus 'class 8' bolts... difference? bolts for engine stand
hey-
Putting my motor on an engine stand, I went bolt shopping. I found class 8.8 boltsm they have 8.8 stamped on the head of the bolt. They were 5 bucks each.
I was told I needed a certain grade of bolts to secure the engine to the engine stand.. will these suffice?
For the lower bolts I got a section of allthread... 1/2" 13, and some lockwashers, normal washers, and bolts... will these hold up?
Is there a difference between gradation and classification of bolts?

thanks for that... but Im asking if there is a difference between 'grade' and 'class' of bolts.
All I was able to find locally was 'class 8' bolts. Do these equate to 'grade 8' bolts?

I've never heard of class 8 bolts. Find the tensile strength of them and that will give you an idea of how they are compared to a grade 8. I would imagine they are the same as grade 8, just named different. I have seen bolts with an 8.8 stamped on the head(if these are what you are talking about) and they weren't the same as grade 8, but they will hold your engine on the stand. I wouldn't use them inside your engine though.
cool i figured it out... i looked inside a haynes book. 'Class' refers to property class; the metric way of defining grade
