any howto's on pulling an engine from UNDER the car?
as the title says,
this is the method I plan on using,
but I wanted to see alittle more in depth on how to go about doing it properly.
i mean.. i'm sure I could just wing it and figure my own way out,
but it would be nice to see how others do it!
thanks.

well what i did was jack the car up,unbolt everything and get it all out of the way and ready.. then put the car all the way to the ground with something like 2 skateboards to hold the engine. and htne you jack the front of the car i think its about 29 inches off the (measuring from the bottom of the car.. then just roll the engine out.. ehh i would reccommend getting a few friends.. but a hoist is easier.. unless you have a lift..
yeah that method works better IMO. doing it this way will help prevent the breaking of sensors and other things.
haha you guys are funny. A couple of friends.. skateboards.. come on. I JUST pulled an engine last weekend from my 99. I jacked it up nice and high and pulled the engine out with the tranny. I actauly could'nt get the drivers side lca bolt off.. so i said **** it and pulled the engine from the pass side out, then threw the front. I took off the head too, but thats only 6-8" or so more you have to rock the car up. Just be smart about it. Once you get in there it will be common sense. Any questions thow msg me up
ok sounds coo,
never thought about skateboards, hehe, should make it easy to roll outta there.
how do you guys go about jacking it up high enough??
will I need to buy two jacks for this!?

about the jacks... get 2 it will work A LOT better. i used a nice jack, and the spare tire jack. it was HELL to get that high. 2 normal jacks would have worked a lot better =]

honda engines are ment installed through the bottom from the factory.
ive done dozens of swaps and hoists take way to long
low the car low, place a furniture roller under the engine, lower car until the weight is on the roller, undo mounts, jack up car high, slide roller out

No ****. I'd be worried the whole time i'm working under there that the whole car is going to slam the **** down on me.

aahhhh, last resort,
rather not have to **** around with retorqueing the bolts and worrying about the headgasket not seating n ****...
but yeah, def i'll try and keep it as low as poss,
probly put it on a piece of cardboard and slide it in/out.
remove the valvecover might help an inch..

Tad, seriously man, don't do this. Go rent an engine hoist and an engine tilt to make things easier for you. I could understand if you wanted to drop the motor from the bottom at a shop using an actual car lift. Dropping it from the top or the bottom requires you to disconnect and remove all the same parts. Once you have everything removed(disconnected shift linkage, disconnect wiring harness, remove axles, etc.) to pull the motor, it will take you 5 minutes to get this thing out with a hoist. Things will move quicker and smoother if you just use an engine hoist and pull it from the top. Oh, and don't pull the head off either. That's one of the funniest things I've heard. Good luck.
Ageed. If you don't have a lift, **** it. pull it out from the top. don't even stress over how honda engine when installed from the factory. just yank that bitch out from the top. way easier and no need to take the hood off either just leave it on.
I drop my H22 in the garage with a hoist all by me lonesome. and it went in like a charm. keep in mind i removed my A/C and also took out the radiator and condesor for clearance. but IMO way easier then trying to jack the car three feet in the air. that just doesn't sound safe at all.

appreciate the concern,
but this post is about how to do it, not whether I want to or not.
I've known of plenty of people that do motor swaps ONLY from the bottom, and they havent had any problems.
People who pull from the top however, complain about scratching up the engine bay and breaking sensors n stuff on the way out.
also i'd have to get a hoist.
Oh and thanks for the links folks, very helpful info indeed!

hey, just get a hi-lift, or borrow on from a friend, get a wooden pallet.........free from a hardware store cause they have a billion, slide the pallet underneath, lower the car ALL THE WAY DOWN, watching to make sure you dont **** up your lower ball joints..........i did by going too far down, unbolt it, and jack it back up, thas all there is
what do u do with the rear mount? ive always wondered this. when pulling or installing the engine do u leave the bracket on and just unbolt from mount? or do u unbolt the bracket from engine?
what i did was just unbolted the one big long bolt holding the bracket to the mount, because if you undo the whole bracket from the engine.......you have to be under the car, and when you undo that bracket, the back of the engine will fall down, i dont know about you, but i sure as hell wouldnt wanna be under there when that happens, lol
