Default Sloppy Shifter Need Help

Ok, i just bought a 93 Civic Ex for my fiance for $1000, with just a couple rust bubbles and the car was taken care of very well. Here is one problem with it though. When you go into gears you can still move the shifter around a lot almost as much as when you are in neutral. I just Put on the Energy Suspension shifter bushings and it didn't help at all. All it did is i can find the gears a little easier. I don't remember my CRX's having this much play. Any advice would be apreciated. Thanks

the bolt and nut that goes through the bottom of the shifter and shift linkage needs to be tightened. that will get rid of the sloppiness.

check the bitch pin too, if that was ghetto-rigged, you'll need some attention there.

check the pin that connects your linkage to the trans. if its a bolt or not the right pin it may cause 'sloppiness'. i had a bolt/nut through mine temporarily and had the same issue. when i replaced it with the proper pin, it cleaned right up.

in this pic, the pin is part no 28 & the pin 'ring' (holds the pin in) is part no 28

See the joint by 28, thats what caused the problem. The people at rpiracing.com actaully came up with a solution to it.

Well i guess its somewhere in the shifter assembly, all the linkages are ok. So I guess ill just have to live with it for now.

I had my dad put the car in gear and move it side to side the connection to the Trans and the stabalizer bar moved very very little like 2mm. All the play is coming from inside the shifter assembly. I could see if where that pin was everything was woling around but everything was really tight. So the prbblem is inside the shifter itself.

Look into getting some ES Shifter bushings. Could be those too.

I put in the ES shifter bushings this morning...the stabalizer shifter bushing was shot. But it didn't cure the problem.

Yeah my shifter moves side to side a bit when in gear, doesn't make any noises - I thought that was 'normal' or a slight wear issue.

So it's not supposed to be like that? And the problem is...?

i believe its a 12, just get under your car and keep tightening it and feeling the gears til its at your liking

no a short shifter will not make a difference in that, the bolt determines the mobility

You got that one right, they replaced the joint with one they bought. They said it was a really nice feel afterwords. It was costly though.
