Cold air intake
I'm going to buy a cold air intake kit in the next week. What's the difference between "short" and "long" tubes? I'm leaning towards the AEM kit, but don't know if to buy "short" or "long". Thanks
Well...a short tube is a short ram intake and a longer tube is a cold air intake. The short ram intake sucks warm air from ur engine bay while the cold air intake tucks behind your front fender and sucks in cooler air from outside. The downside to having a cold air intake is that you could hydrolock your engine if you drive through a deep puddle and suck water into your intake. If it rains at all by you like it does here in south florida, you might want to lean towards a short ram intake. I would personally go with the short ram anyway because its cheaper and you wont really gain that much more from using a cold air intake, plus you wont have to worry about anything while your driving around.
there was a thread on this a few weeks back, if it's aem i'd go with cold air and a bypass valve but short ram's usually the best for everything cause there isnt a difference anyways
ur NOT gonna hydrolock unless ur a ******* retard....
get a 2.5 in diameter piping, throw on a K&N or Apexi filter, and ull be fine as long as you keep your splash guard on......and if ur worried about it, get a 2.5" bypass vavles from AEM

Well I don't really have to worry about the rain here in colorado, sometimes yes, but mostly no. So basicly the long tube would tuck up into the front and pull air from the very same place that my stock one does now? If there was/is a thread on this, could somebody point me to it? thanks.......

SO TRUE......man AEM has you guys SOLD on the bypass ****. You dont need one unless you plan on auto-Xing in a POND. Other than that, keep your splash guard on and you'll be fine.

Go the poor man's route...Sawzaw and a dremel tool to the airbox.

if you are gonna buy an intake by cold air one. As for the rain issue, just leave splash guard there or make something that will help keep the water out. Don't be stupid and drive threw puddles and you should be fine.
Hey I'm new to this thread. I just have a quick simple question about the CAI. I plan on getting a CAI sometime within this month or so but i was wonder if i remove that plastic tubing from the bottom of the inlet tubing on the stock intake. If so could anyone also post a few pictures of their CAI on a 5th Gen Accord from many angles. I would like to see how it would look like. Thanks a lot =D
the AEM bypass filter/valve is the way to go, especially if you get puddles which can be higher than a foot high, once the filter on your CAI is completely submerged you are in trouble if you dont have that alternate piece sitting higher up in the piping.

i hydrolocked recently because i was a ******* moron and decided to do some donuts on the grassy field while the sprinklers were on. i was drunk and didnt remember i had CAI. the only way you hydrolock is if you go over a puddle that is as high to reach ur bumper(but thats only is you press the gas pedal) or if you are a ******* idiot like me and went over a sprinkler!!!!! go with short ram no chance of hydrolock and cheaper. or go with the guy said earlier about getting a generic brand and getting a good filter.

just get the short ram, you wont even notice the power difference between the cold air and the short ram, you will have no chance in messing up ur engine, and the short ram will produce a louder throatier sound then the cold air.
i have both for my car, so in the spring and other times when we get little flash floods and other crazy weather here in Jersey i just have the option of switching them out which takes next to no time...so if its proven that the short ram cant give you a noticeable loss then run with it, ****, cant hurt, even the ebay idea is good, in fact its great!
