JDM engines on Ebay???
I am in the middle of rebuilding my F22A6 engine for my 91 Accord. I pulled the valves out, and sure enough, They are all done. I figured that by the time I buy the engine kit, and valves, and everything else that I am thinking of, I might be better off just buying another low mileage engine.
Has anyone had any experience buying the JDM engines off ebay? I did a search here, but really didn't find much.
Are the JDM F22's really a direct install for cars like mine?
I saw some JDM F22A motors for around 500-600. Should I go this route, or should I spend a little more for an F22B motor?
The car is not going to be doing any racing, and rarely gets abused. I mostly drive it back and forth to work (about 60 miles) everyday. I would love to get a little more power, but I think I will probably notice better power just from the rebuild. I remember how the car drove new, and I remember it being much quicker. Then again, my memory might be distorted from driving my 3.0 around. Huge difference!!!
Anyway, If anyone can let me know if they think it is a good idea to buy the JDM engines off ebay, I would appreciate it.
Thanks -
Mike

usually you want to stay away from engine swaps on ebay, they can be unreliable transactions and just turn into headaches. try hmotorsonline.com, they have great customer service and have among the best priced engine swaps around.
Thanks for the link FatJoe. I am not really interested as much in doing a swap as much as I just want to get the car back on the road.
I figured that if I was going to end up spending $500 reringing my motor and replacing the valves, then I might as well buy one of the low-mileage JDM motors off Ebay.
I think that I might just buy the re-ring kit, a used head, and go that route. Maybe somewhere down the line I will do a more advanced swap. My wife already tells me I have too many projects going on.

hey no problem...you ever thought of goin to a local junkyard and see what f series they have lying around? they go for EXTREMELY cheap... prolly around 200 bucks is all i would spend and all they are gonna get from them. and you can find them with considerably low mileage there too. good luck on whatever you choose
I really haven't checked with the salvage yards around here, because most of them tend to only keep the domestic stuff. I know that in the years past most of them I checked with didn't have any Accords laying around.
That is another good idea though. I will check some of the salvage yards around the bigger cities. I don't mind driving a few hours if I can get the motor pretty cheap. I missed out on a decent motor on ebay the other day with everything still attached. It sold for like $102!!!
Thanks again for your suggestions. I was pretty damn scared to post on the forum. Seems like most of the n00b's get beat up pretty bad.

you should only buy a motor from a reputible dealer. you never know where the ebay motors are coming from. yes its cheaper but id rather spend the extra cash and get something that is most likely gonna cause less hassles.
often, reputable engine wholesalers WILL put engines up on Ebay, especially if they have a reserve, and can afford to let some go for cheaper....in that caues, ebay motors are fine, but you HAVE to make sure its a reputable dealer putting up the auction

Thanks for the offer patastinky. I am going to check around here and see if I can come up with anything. There is also another H-T member that has a head he will sell me. I would really like to just put some bearings and rings in it, and throw another head on it and go!
We'll see what happens. Like I said, thanks for the offer. I might have to take you up on it if I can't find anything else.
