Default type-r head problems

Ok I have a '94 GSR, I just recently swapped my factory cylinder head for a brand new P73 jdm ITR head, along with that I decided to go with the JG intake manifold to fit the new head, versus my old Skunk2 manifold. I noticed after I was done with the install that there was a sensor on the backside of the head that had no where to go and my check engine light is still on. With my old setup: Stock head w/ skunk2 stage 2 cams, STR cams gears, AEM fuel rail w/regulator, skunk2 intake manifold, JG throttle body, jdm 4-1 header, iceman intake, V-AFC, It put down 177hp to the wheels. With this new setup, the only differences being the new ITR head w/skunk2 valvetrain, JG ITR intake manifold, it put down 175 hp to the wheels. Does anybody have a clue why I made no gains with the JDM ported and polished head????? Please let me know.

The JG manifold may be a little too much for your setup. Its good for high rpm NA engines and boosted engines.Your setup sounds more like a street setup.Switch back to the skunk2 and you should gain your power back, plus some.

Should I keep the JG if I am planning to raise the compression and replace the internals to allow for higher revs. Thanks again!

Unless your running really high compression, 13:1+, I would stick with the skunk2 mani.

a so-call JDM ITR head is the same as the USDM ITR head. Only difference are the stamping of the head. I've actually compare these head before in the past, both were new in the box.

Your loss of horsepower has to do with the IM.

Well I was planning on running a JE piston, crower rod setup on the stock block with Hondata programing. Is this a good idea or is Toda or something else a better idea. I know I need higher compression, but how do I know how high I need to go. I drive the car on occasion, so its not an everyday driver, but its also not a drag car. I noticed the Toda 81-82mm sizes, which run around 12:4:1 compression, is this possible with the GSR block, what other mods need to be done to the block in order to run this high compression. Thanks guys, I'm learning slowly.

did they actually tune the motor rite? or was that just a base line run?....u cant just swap out bigger parts and expect to gain more horses off the back....

No we actually did about 8 passes on the dyno tuning and adjusting cam timing, fuel pressure, and VAFC adjustment. So tuning shouldn't be the problem. Is the JG just no good at all????

The JG IM is very good, but may not be good for your setup.Like I said, its mainly good for higher compressiion and bigger cammed NA engines or Turbo engines,as th plenum is quite large..swap to either the skunk2 or another oem honda IM and im sure youll gain the HP you've lost.

JG intake manifold states on the box it is for NA powerbands from 7K to 11K or 12K. Not much of a useable power band for a streetcar.
