GSR Block
LS Crank
ITR pistons

Im going for an NA setup, definately nothing over 250hp. Heres my question:

Which rods would be better? I have a set of LS rods, but it seems to me that cryo-treating is fairly expensive. I can get a set of Eagle LS rods for less than it would cost to cryo-treat my rods.
Only thing is, I heard you have to modify the piston to bolt up to the Eagle rods.

Im just confused. Any help or input would be great. Thanks!

 

Maybe I missed the boat on cryo treating but I haven't seen any good proof that it really does anything. Maybe someone else has a link to more info that can teach me something, but it seems hokey to me.

 

I would personally go with the Eagle rods, and yes if you are using a oem piston you will have to do some modification to get them to work with eagle rods, factory rods, wrist pin are pressed into the rods, were eagles are a floating wrist pin, no big deal, will just have to find someone who can cut some groves into your factory pistons so you can install wrist pin locks. Eagle in Memphis use to keep extra clips&locks for the JE/SRP pistons that they sell, thats all you need, and then find someone who can machine the pistons for you. Alittle work, but can be done.....

Great stuff, just go on the internet, and do some searching, tons of success stories, and info, for example I have a friend, that would have to change valve springs halfway through the race season, decided to try the cryo treated valve springs, last year, and he went all year same valve springs, just a quick personal experience. My new engine has all cryo treated valve terrain, cams, crank, and all my transmission parts are treated. will be my first personal experience with it, but have had many fellow racing friends using cryo parts for awhile.

Cryo treating has been proven in industry even longer than it has in racing.

There are many competitors in tractor pull competitions than can attest to the effectiveness of cryo.

 

I used cryotreated pads and rotors on my civic street car and they lasted 3 times longer than usual. That's no hokey stuff right there.

 

Cryo treating is not that expensive either. I recieved a price from a company that quoted me somewhere around 7.50 a rod....

That website was very helpful. Now that I know this cryo process isn't near as expensive as I thought, would the treated LS rods not perform just as well in a 200-250whp 9000rpm redlide Civic? Or do you suggest still going with eagle rods/modified pistons?

Oh and just to make sure Im on the same page, the exact Eagle rods were talking about will be the 3rd one down on this page page (part # CRS5394A3D) http://www.eaglerod.com/produc....html. Correct?

I'm just going with LS rods ARP rod bolts, and some cryo treating.

you have no choice but to run the ls rods.....aftermarket rods dont fit on stock pistons

 

Yes those are the rods, and I would still go with the Eagle rods, after you upgrade the rod bolts, and pay to have them cryo treated, pay shipping, and wait, you might as well just get the eagles, and not worry about it, and I would also save up and get a aftermarket piston for the rods, and not worry about the oem piston thing, but if you decide to the ctr pistons, they can be modifed to fit. Give me a call here at the shop. I can get the Eagle rods to work on your OEM pistons for you.
The cost would be $11.00 Per piston and it would include the locks.
It would take a few days but it is worth the wait.

Hey thats a darn good deal, $11.00 a piston. Arias are building my custom pistons for our new race engine right now, been dealing with nick at atomic, Dan from DPR racing dropped my head off their this week, cant wait!! Arias

Well, i would go with the eagles, but unfortunately they were not designed to work with stock pistons, hence i'm going with stockers. If something just wasn't meant for another...Oh well. Make the best of what you got. Theirs nothing like OEM quality either.
