84 accord starts to die when I hit the brake
hey all, I just bought this 84 accord pretty cheap. it starts and runs fine, but when I when I hold down on the brake, it dies. It does have an oil leak, my mechanic says it's the rack and pinion.
I can drive it, but it's tough because I have to throw it into neutral and rev the engine while my foot is on the brake. After I bought it I did the plugs and wires, oil change, and replaced some vacuum hoses that were broken, but I can't imagine how hitting the brake kills the engine, even while it's in park. This is driving me nuts, it's my only form of transportation right now. I've spent hours searching around for some kind of solution, but haven't found anything. If anyone has any idea I would so much appreciate it. Oh yeah, it's the old carbureted engine. Thanks guys.

This is a common symptom of a vacum leak, the reason for the brake/stall condition is the booster uses a lot of vacum, this does not absolutely mean the booster is bad. Vacum advance diaphram, hot air door diaphram, the 2 miles of vacum tubing, all need to be checked over.
