Default 4 grand for a motor... whats the best??

I know you guys prolly get this question ALOT. i did a search and couldnt find anything though.

My friend has a 91 CRX si he has 4 grand to spend on a motor. He is considering a b16 with turbo, an h22 with spray, a b16b (type R), or a GSR. What do you guys think. sorry if this is a repeat question

He needs to ask himself what HE wants to do.

You can make anything fast.

Again, you can make anything fast.....

running boost on anything that has stock internals will never compare to the power you can make from spraying. Example, jdm b16a (usually probably beat up like they all are) you cant really run turbo safley after 9psi boost, and you might be lucky to see a 13.9 with that. Put 100 shot to that same motor, save a few G's and as long as he can drive 13.1 should definatley be achievable. You just cant slap **** together, tuning is everything

B18C1 with Skunk2 Intake Mainfold and Type-r or any 64 MM Throttle Body. That in a CRX should be low 13's high 12's with slicks and good driver. Add in some Skunk2 stage 2 cams and a good header and some good tuning should a pretty fast CRX. That was gonna be my setup before I got the new project

another question you need to consider is do you want horsepower or torque? i personally prefer b18 motors for the torque. if you want to get the most bang for the buck and arent worried about being legal get a b18a and turbo the crap out of that thing. the ys1 tranny that comes stock on the b18a is perfect for turbo motors cause its longer gearing keeps you from ripping through gears to quick. that would be what i would do.

What you really need to ask is:

Do I want a mount kit and the extra vibration that comes with it?

I've been there...done that. I'll never touch a mount kit again in my life.

for the money 84mm built b18a/b/c is the way to go hands down if you want to be FAST, but very very unorigional.

sleeved gsr or ls block to 84 mm. vtec head. ls crank/rods for more tq, gsr crank/rods for safer revs. forged pistons rods. big intake manifold. t3/60-1 or bigger.

I drove an EG Hatch with B18C1 swap into it. It has completely changed my mind about DOHC VTEC. I still say screw B16 and get the 1.8 just for the slight torque advantage. And they really aren't that expensive.

You sure you have the engine right? That's about the amount of power the FULLY built N/A K20's are putting out, but with a lot less TQ. I don't see a 1.5liter putting out anywhere near that.

well he said 'correct me if I'm wrong' so to me it sounds like he's not exactly sure.

if he already has the d16A6 motor in his car. then the best BANG FOR THE BUCK would be to resleave to a 1.8 and get built head,JG cam and some bisimoto headers and hondata.

that should net you some good numbers and be a bit below the 4000 dollar mark.

How could you do a search and find nothing? There are engine debates on here all the time, I don't think you looked very hard.

Sell the car, get an EG, drop in an H22, sell that for some more money, buy another and do a K swap, sell that for even more money, do 3 more K swaps in EG's and sell them all, maybe do a few H22 EG's to mix it up and sell those, save all the money, get a jet engine and strap it to the back of a pocket bike.

dont question my knowledge boY!
i pulled one of those b2's out of my 90 dx and when i put my b16 with thousands of dollars into it i was pretty disapointed,
the d15b2 also uses the new carbon block materal, i was able to lift the longblock up with two hands and then drop it on the ground repeatedly, they are LIGHT but the power it pushes is like unbeliveable

hey does anyone know how i can convert my b16a to dpfi???
