Default 5G Cylinder Head Swap Questions

Ok,

So I have a head from a 97 Prelude that is in perfect condition.

My Prelude is a 98. (Both are base models.)

The 97 has: P13 HF-1 on it.

The 98 has: P13 HF-2 on it.

Can I use the 97 head on the 98 Prelude without any problems?

Are they all the same?

Honda lists two different part numbers... and two different prices... so I'm a little confused.

I was able to find this information:

12100-PCF-010 is the head for a 98/99/00/01 Base MT/AT/SH

12100-P5M-305 is the head for a 97 Base MT/AT

12100-P13-000 is the head for a 97 SH or CA

MT = Manual Transmission
AT = Auto Transmission
CA = California Emissions

I'm now completely confused, as I've got a 98 Base Prelude, I'm the originally owner, and it appears that I've got a P13 head...

Will all of these heads work in any model 5th Gen Prelude?

every H22 engine part should be stamped with a P13, even if its not in the part number, that is the H22 part designation.

I think they changed something with the oiling system in the head in 98...but i doubt it would make the 97 head not work in a 98.

I don't see why not. I am using 00' h22a4 head on my 93' h23a1 block without any problems whatsoever...

So,

I checked Majestic Honda's online part system, and they list the heads as the same for a 98 and 97 base model manual.

I know that in the 99+ heads they changed the type of lost motion assemblies for the rocker arms... but I'm not certain if that would effect the head design.

Any more thoughts... or does is just not matter....

I don't think it would effect the head design, I'm pretty sure people mix and match heads with blocks every day of the week...
