What's that red square on the license plate panel? Is it a third brake light? j/c

it's the rear foglight.

ever notice on Mercedes Benz cars, sometimes you see the left tail light is brighter than the right, and you're like WTF?? Well, when the fog lights are turned on, the left tail light lights up as bright as a stop light, cuz it acts as the rear fog lamp, so you know you can pass to the left of him on a foggy night. Kinda like boats have green light on one side, red on the other, so you know which way to pass.

Don't the Japanese and many European countries drive on the left side of the road? And therefore pass on the right?

I'm kinda thinking its a 3rd brake light cause in the US the third brake light is on the little pillar that goes over the rear window. And it doesn't look like this one has it...does it?

As a rule of thumb, the "islands" drive on the left: UK, Australia, Japan, etc. Doesn't work all the time, but it gets you close. And it is not a third brake light. Honda refers to it as a mist light, and it is used in inclement weather. Don't know about the passing thing, but I do know that it is to be located on the driver's side of the car. In England, it is on the right. In Germany, it would be on the left, and so on and so on for countries which require this piece of safety equipment to come standard.

Also, it is activcated much like factory fogs would be with a switch. In the sols, the switch is located over the instrument cluster with all the other fun buttons up there. A lot of European countries also require headlights which can be tilted up or down by the driver inside the cabin. Always thought that that would be a cool mod...

EDIT: I personally own 2 sols, one of which is JDM, but I modified it to European spec with the mist light on the left side of the license plate.
