'97 Accord SE heat shield problems
Kinda auto illiterate but can fix damn near anything so bear w/ me.
Ok, my accord rattles ALL the time! Sounds like its coming right from under the engine. I've been told that its my heat shield, either broken or loose.
Here's my questions: What is a heat shield? Is it all that important? Where is it located and how would I service it.??
Another Problem: When I run my A/C all the condensed water does NOT drain out of the hose leading outside the car. Instead it get backed up and leaks into my passenger side floor board. Any ideas why this is happening? I took it in to get looked at once and they blew some air up in the hose and bunches of water came gushing out. If its plugged w/ something, how do i get in there to clean it all out? Or is it a matter of manually using something like a pipe cleaner and fishing for whatever is stuck in there??
Any thoughts, comments or Ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!

for me the heat shield helps alot, for some reason my car is extremely hot in the engine bay area so i needed to wrap it with exhaust wrap + heatshield. and the rattling could just be the 3 screws have come loose, just tighten em a bit and see if it goes away... if its not that it can also be your heat shield from the cat check to make sure...
and for the AC water, look under the passenger side, there should be a hole on the firewall and a long rubber tube, the tube should be pointing outside the hole...

yup, its on the outside....the water actually is coming from behind that area of the dash. I found the hose....my guess is that it could be plugged?? Any way of cleaning that out??
some people just stick a clothes hanger up there and try to get whatever they can out... and ive seen a few guys use vacummn cleaners (seriously) they wrap it around and turn the sucker on hoping it grabs something...
I would not suggest ramming a coat hanger up in there, the evaporator is made of alum. tubing.
You can 'back blow' the drain hose with compressed air, and it will solve the problem for awhile.
The cause of the problem is debris inside the evap. casing, and it will eventually work it's way back down to the bottom of the casing, where the drain just happens to be located. Sheeesh, gravity........who needs it. ;-]
