Silly question.. jdm folding mirrors
Ok.. its the end of the work day, and as usual, I am killing time on HT.com.
Now for the big question. I feel like I know everything about installing the JDM folding side mirrors except for one thing.. why do it? What does having folding mirrors accomplish?
Believe me, I am not being a smart-***. Is it an aesthetic thing? Sorry, too much engineering work for me today, I guess. I just couldn't figure it out. I might as well ask, right?

So when you go uber-fast, your car gets more streamlined.
Or, when you need to park somewhere very tight, and don't feel like rolling down your windows (it's raining) or letting the force fold the mirrors back.

maybe some people just liek them...its pretty cool to have jsut a switch to fold yoru mirrors in, and like if you pullin your car in the garage who really wants to climb over the passenger seat to tuck that one in? not me...id like a pair if i could find some...i guess just to have them.

JDM cars have em cuz parking is in Japan is ***! A friend of mine has em on his Civic. Pretty cool for looks but serve no other purpose except for parking closer to other cars.
i am going to rig my power folding mirrors to my alarm. i dont know if it has been done before. i am going to try to make it fold in when my alarm is activated and fold out when i deactivate. MIGHT BE GAY. sorry
Ok.. so you fold in your mirrors to park closer to another car. How do you get out of your car then? I'd imagine if you are parking close enough that your mirrors would touch, then opening the door wouldn't be an option.
parking close = people walking between narrower space between cars = handbags/jackets/fat-a##es rubbing/hooking your mirrors. i just dread to see a car with mirrors folded forward, just cause some moron accidentally clipped it when walking by.
I agree that same level op prevention can be had with manual folding, but its alot easier.
I have a full JDM import 4th gen (RHD) and I always retract mirrors when parking outside of my garage....just paranoid
..............then again, I got it as standard

yes they are, they r the non el type, just regular, car is '93......
I also like the EL type much better, dash will be completely black ..........numbers on gauges and needles will light up when ign = on, instead of complete dash being lit.......Cool!!!.....next mod maybe?
Do note the power seat though, even in Japan a rare treat, got it off a junker, havent seen anyone with this to date.........(
showoff, yeah, I know...LOL)

ok, i guess those guages do look like mine. they just looked extra white to me for some reason... who knows?
that power seat really is something, though. i didn't realize that was even an option for the 4th gen.

Is there a difference between JDM folding mirrors and USDM folding mirrors? I know my 4th gen mirrors fold in, and they are USDM.
I have jdm power mirrors on my car because I'm a jdm fanatic and also because it's different. But I have vision carbon fiber mirrors now which weigh so much lighter than the power mirrors.

Hi I just recently purchased a pair of used 5th gen power folding mirrors...I was wondering if any one had install one of these before...and is it hard or does it use the stock power mirror hardness?
man i would not put myself through that again it is a royal pita to run those wires aleast you can play with the mirror switch and trip people out with youre folding mirrors
Reasons for JDM = Small streets + parking + busses etc that could take your mirror off.
The aerodynamic argument is plausable, i suppose I do kill a fair load of flies with my mirrors alone but I dont thing it would make much difference.
Mervin: Nice Lude and damn i envy you; you got the electronic seats!, that and leather are the two options my import fell short of. As for the AFBS that It looks like you have, well Im not to fussed about that.
and '93vtec ATL' JDM Guagues list up to 190mph! ///\\\\\\\\\////\//////\/\/\///\//\/\/\/\/\//Stop daydreaming tho everyone, you know its not geared for that though. But still it is a nice thought lol.

but....being jdm, it is in kilometer per hour, not miles, correct?? I have a set of the EL jdm gauges not yet installed, and all the other non-el gauges I've seen are in kmph

Yes except when the vehicle was imported they change the audometer to one that reads miles OEM equip replacement. And as for the Guage cluster, It says mph now and I was told by my friend that imported it that they do change the card in the dash (Just so it reads on MPH) athough the numbers on the JDM VTEC dash cards is i the exact same positions. I'm not 100% sure on what they changed to make the readings come out in mph (maybe a resister added into the circuit to affect the voltage reading???) You see 190kph in japan is 118.06mph And If you ever import a japanese car direct then you will find they all have a speed governer installed on construstion by law that limits the car to 118mph topspeed. Obviously that went straight into the bin
If you look at the pic below (save & zoom in) you can see that the first letter before the '_PH' marking below the trip meter has a peak which is as tall as the tip of the h at the end. This is one of the original auction pics of my car.

And original milage (in kilometers) on the car I finally chose (6th One offered)...

Its a 1992 JDM BB1 Si-VTEC4ws
40708km = 25295 miles.
