Sqare Porting and Polishing. What do you guys think?
I just saw the Jerry built engines. They are using a Sqare port on the intake side of the heads. It seems like a good idea until you start thinking about velocity of the air and turbulence in the chamber. What about the IM, that would have to be sqare, too. What do you guys think.
Now, I haven't seen any pics, but here are my thoughts.
I would think that, to have square ports, you would have to raise the floor of the ports a bit just so that you don't loose velocity. You would have to be very careful how you transition from the square port to the round valve as well...
But, with a flat roof, you could 'steer' the charge to get nice swirling into the cylinder...

I would say the square port heads are more for fully built high (meaning really high) compression motors. I saw what it did on Jerry's B series motor but you cant expect the same gains on a mildly built set up... You may actually lose a lot of low and mid, trading that for a few up top isnt always the best give and take for a street car.
Square porting works great when it is done rite.... Whats weird is that I saw this first being developed by RS machines and it was a big secret years ago and its only today that these kind of topics are popping up....
