rain troubles
ok i think i already know the answer to this but ill ask anyways. last night on the way home from work. i was forced into a deep puddle of water and the car stalled. i couldnt get it restarted until i got home. now the oil smells like gas and i have a plume of smoke coming out the exhaust and it barely idles. does this sound like i blew out some rings? and to anyone who can help how did you handle this with the ins. company? any help greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.
u didnt blow any rings. u cant do it by doing that. it just sounds like u got a little water up in there and it flooded out the car for a sec. you couldnt get it restarted until u got home because it dryed out a little. shouldnt be that big of a deal. since the motor is cranking over, it sounds like its OK, just a little flooded. at least u didnt hydrolock it. this is what u do. take out ur spark plugs first. then crank over the motor for a few secs at a time. it will just pump the pistons up and down but not spark since theyre removed. do this about 3 or 4 times for about 5 secs each. this should pump out any water that is sitting in there in the combustion chamber. let ur plugs dry out or just change them to new ones. change your oil to new oil. put dry plugs or new plugs back in. crank up and let it idle for awhile before driving (maybe 10 mins or so). you will notice a little smoke until all the water is outta there. you should be OK after this. listen up for any strange noises. if all is well with no weird noises or anything, your good to go. hope this helps.
