Default H22 eg handling issues?

im considering doing a h22 eg and whenever i mention it to my friends they always have a comment about how my handling will suck or the car wont turn. i know they are exaggerating, but i also know that understeer will probably be an issue without some substantial suspension mods. what setups are you all running? how does your car handle the twisties? i live in a rural area so there are quite a few windy back roads. thanks for any input.

tell your friends they dont know what they are talking about. I must say ignorance is bliss. Tell them that I will do a track race for pink slips in my H22A powered hatchback. As far as understeer goes, just get the right spring rates. I would go with 400F/400R with appropiate shocks or stiffer rates depending on how stiff u can live with. That setup should have balanced handling (depending on rest of setup obviously). As far as shocks goes I reccomend Koni Yellows (nothing like lifetime guaranteed fully adjustable shocks).

They are talking out of their ***.

It's no different from taking a stock D series and swapping a B series, then it is to have a B series and swap an H.

It's about tweaking the suspension when going thru turns.

Search, my friend.

Hmm.... I recall writing this a couple of months ago: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=841324

And then I wrote this over 2 years ago: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=183552

Unfortunatley, that wasn't in a "rural area with a few windy back roads" but rather an actual road course so there are some differences.

Default LSD

For me, once I added the anti-sway bar and a Quaife LSD, my car handles like GOLD!

With even a minor suspension upgrades you can make it handle like a dream.

The weight difference between an H and a B isn't THAT much.

The extra weight in the front will cause more understeer, but not a whole lot more. Besides, understeer is fairly easily corrected with simple and fairly cheap suspension mods, so its not really a big deal.

It handles great, got the ebay springs at great deal the tension is 450f - 450r, thought it would be bouncy but it handles great. Still have stock shocks, back seems rattling so it is busted. Need to get new ones, looking at the AGX adjustable gas shock, group buy @ $380. Planning to get sway bar sets too. I drive it daily and enjoy it very much.

Oh, btw, until you start taking your car to the limits of what it is capable of, you won't notice the difference between one car's understeer and another's. If you are going to street it only, you'll never even notice anything's different.

The reality is it's alot of weight. 200ish or so

so it's like having your car with full accesories, stock hood battery header and fifty extra pounds if you have alreay modified these parts.

BUT BUT BUT it runs 12's stock

yeah right, if that were the case you could strip 300#'s from the 95 Prelude and run 12's

for me it really comes down to fun, 200 or so extra pounds in the front of my car is not fun

fun is buying an ex trans and rebuilding it with a 4.9 fd and quaife atd along with 140 ground shaking hp from the Dung eX keeping pace by gaining ground in the corners and under braking

then taking the other 2500 and evening the hp gap a bit

that's me.

not only is the weight difference minimal, but the H22 sits farther back in the bay, distributing its weight in the middle, which really doiesnt hurt handling.

With decent suspension (KYB AGX, GC coilovers), my car outhandles any other car that I have driven, except my dads m3 - but thats a given
