HELP..pop when I turn the car on.....slight static on song changes too!
I just replaced my old Eclipse 5441i with a 84something.
before I had all this alternator wine which was elimitated by replacing the headunit.
I connected everything the same (same connector in rear and so on) And with the headunit sitting on the shifter everything was cool
I push it into the DIN and now when I start the car there is a little POP and then everything plays great. And when I do song changes or volume changes there is a slight static sound.
Do you think I crimped a ground wire or something when I pushed it in?
what would cause these two problems?

I have the same problem, i just switched amps, and i get turn on pop, and also when i take the volume to zero and back on again
i hooked up my old amp and it didnt happen, and happened when i hooked the new one back up
i think its an amp issue, i'm gonna bring mine back and exchange it and see if it continues...
[i thought it was the ground too....regrounded it and it did not change]

I had an Eclipse 8443 in my integra and is was doin the exact same thing even down to the static. I took it back to my amp installer to make hime triple check all his grounds, rca's, everything and he couldn't figure it out. He then installed a Pioneer 8600 (i think) and low and behold it all went away. I have been told that the poping is usually due to Eclipses 8v preamp outs. I then proceeded to take it back to my Eclipse dealer to have them make sure it wasn't the deck. They then installed 4 new Eclipse 8443 before giving up and blaming it on incompatibility with my amp. They said they were going to order some part to make it work together. I am assuming they were going to order me a "pop stopper" or some other kind of turn on delay. But i sold my car so it never got fixed.
Here is a pop on stopper on Sounddomain.com:

As far as the static i don't know yet. I just installed my 8443 into my WRX but it isn't hooked up to an amp yet so no crackling yet.
Hope this helped a little.

If you had no problem with the HU out of dash ,and you do have the when its in the dash ,you may well have "pintched" a wire . It may not be the ground, so check them all.
hope this helps.

yeah I think it has to do with crimping a wire, I'm just gonna have to mess with it, or take it to my friends shop for so 10hr shop fees
thanks for the replys
I really think its the decks chassis ground because I get a crinkle kind of sound when a new CD is put in, then it goes away, and when I change tracks.
It isnt very loud buy noticable to an audiophile
