Default d16z6 / d16y7 mini me questions.....

Okay im going to be putting a d16z6 head on a 1999 d16y7 block. Here are the parts i have:

D16z6 Head (Everything from the head up)
OBD2b to OBD1 jumper harness
D16z6 ECU

now here is what i need to know which motor to buy for:

ARP Head Bolts ( z6 motor i guess?)
Head Gasket ( z6 or y7 ?)
Timing Belt (z6 or y7 ?)
Water Pump (z6 or y7?)

so i guess thats all the parts i need to put the head on correct?? i just need to know which motor to get those parts for.

thanks
chris

-- you really wanna buy ARP's? stock studs work fine ya know . anywho, I believe you gotta use Y7/Y8 headstuds because Z6 headstuds are longer than Y8/Y7 headstuds.

Head Gasket ( z6 or y7 ?)
-- go with a Y8 h/g (although I think a Y7 h/g is exactly the same as a Y8 h/g), its actually a tad bit thinner than a Z6 h/g.

Timing Belt (z6 or y7 ?)
-- reuse your existing Y7 belt or buy a new one. I believe the Y7 & Y8 use the same timing belt.

Water Pump (z6 or y7?)
-- reusing your existing Y7's water pump will suffice.

so i guess thats all the parts i need to put the head on correct?? i just need to know which motor to get those parts for.

-- if you didn't know the Z6 camsprocket's TDC timing marks are slightly off when doing this type of mini-me setup. If you get an adjustable camsprocket or run a Y8 or even your existing Y7 camsprocket on the Z6 camshaft, I believe it will fix this problem. And I believe you can reuse your existing Y7's dizzy on the Z6 head.

thanks

thanks for the quick reply!

well im going turbo in the near future and everyone has told me that the ARP head bolts are good insurance. and since im tearing most of the motor apart (swaping tranny too) im going to go ahead and replace the T Belt and water pump while im there.
if i buy an adjustable cam gear im assuming they are all the same for d series?? i was thinking of buying an SRR one.
and your pretty sure i need the y7/y8 headstuds for this setup??

thanks

ah ok..then the ARP headstuds are worthy of getting

I believe all of the adjustable SOHC D-series sprockets are the same.

yea, i'm pretty sure you'll need Y7/Y8 headstuds, unless a D-series super guru finds me wrong...
