Buying GReddy 18g kit for 00 Si, issues....
I really need someone experienced people to answer me some questions.
I am wanting to buy the 18g kit off of my buddies identical 00 EBP Si. BUt I want to know a few things. These issues are going to affect my decision to keep going with my Si or just leave it stock and save up downpayment for a factory turbo car next spring. I will run the blue box and a J & S ultra safeguard.
1. My car has 75,000 miles on it, and I drive about 56 -60 miles daily between my two jobs ( mostly highway miles ). Now I don't want to build the motor at first, so will it hold up on the stock engine for a good year or so? I mean 75,000 miles is not so bad, but by this time next year it will have probably 90k on it or so as much as I have to drive right now.
2. The turbo kit has been on his Si for about 2 years or more now. not exactly positive of the mileage on it. He has always turbo timed it and takes care of everything. How much life should it have in it. How much does it cost to rebuild a turbo like that if i need to on down the road? I mean I do have that option right. I am not for sure if you can just buy a new turbo from GReddy without purchasing the whole kit.
Thanks in advance..

1. 75,000 miles on your car isn't bad, I turbo'd mine when it had around the same amount of milage. 6 or 7 psi on the 18g should last you a while as long as you're not going boost happy 24/7. I would recommend a walbro 255 lph fuel pump to go along with the injectors (he is giving you the injectors which came with the kit as part of the deal right?) and blue box. My buddy Matt drove his b20/vtec turbo setup a total of 100 miles a day going from work to home. Let the turbo timer do it's thing and you'll be fine.
2. If you're worried about the turbo's condition, take it to be looked at, make sure the oil seals are still good, check the compressor and exhaust housing wheels, and check for shaft play. The price of building a turbo usually depends on where you take it and what size the turbo is. From my past experiences it's usually around
4-500, but like I said it depends. Check GReddy's website on purchasing only the turbo from them, I'm not too sure about that but it's best to check it out for yourself.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have been trying to decide on this for awhile now. I mean everything would be pretty easy to bolt up on my car. His Si is EBP also and we were going to just swap bumpers since his is already cut out for the intercooler. Maybe swap the oil pan also??
Yes the injectors are gonna be included with the kit.. the 310's I believe they are.
I was looking at getting something factory turbo like an SRT-4 for bang for buck.. BUt I really like my Si.. I may just build on it.
Brad
any more opinions are much welcomed

Great advice above^^
Id recommend doing a compression check just to get solid proof on the condition of your motor. Make your decision on purchasing your friends turbo kit after you find that out. Look for consistency in the numbers.
It should be more like 200-300 to rebuild the turbo from a greddy kit. breaking it down its around 150 for the rebuild kit and the rest is labor and shipping(if applicable). Id recommend only taking it to a professional shop that can rebalance the turbo after they rebuild it.
Dont be greedy with the boost and u will be fine. Like recommended above stay around 6-7psi stock and you will have no problems.
