96 with obdI inspection
Hi everyone, just bought my first car, a 96 S.
I know the topic of OBDI/II has been talked about to death, but I want to know if anyone has had or knows anyone that has had issues getting a 96 prelude with an h22 inspected. I heard that since h22a is obdI, they are not legal on the 96 models. Should i sell the 96 and get a 95 lude?

depends on what motor you put in there. where was it from? A 96 prelude is an OBDII car and should have had an obdii motor put in it. But really you could obdii any h22a by using the right distributor, oil pump and the matching injectors to the ecu you are using.
I don't yet have the h22, still just looking around for ideas. I was leaning towards h22a1 until i found out that my car is obdII. How would i make it obdII?
edit: what motor would be best for a 96 prelude S that is obdII?

i doubt the va state inspetion woul entail matching the engine to the car. even if it does the 96 lude w/ vtec had an h22a1 that was converted to obd2 with the pieces metioned above. IIRC the injectors were still peak and hold in 96.
So there would be no obvious way of telling the obd1 h22a1 wasn't at home in your engine bay, other then cross checking the vins. It wouldn't be very evident that you swapped engines, especially to a VA state inspector.

I concur. Just do an OBDI swap and you'll be fine

What are all these inspections you speak of? Here in MT we can do whatever the hell we want to our cars, no inspections, no emissions tests, no nothing. The only thing they can do is pull us over for our exhaust being too loud if its past ten, and they usually dont. Im honestly interested about such inspections, because Im moving out of state in a year and a half, and I need to know what to expect, and if my lude will be street legal with a turbo, full exhaust, and what not.
