Hi guys im a newbe to the s2k and i was thinking about getting one but had a coule of questions.

First of all i drive a 93 del sol si so im kinda used to the topless 2 seater thing.

now these are some problems i had with my sol and i wanted to know if the s2k had similar problems.

1) stock stereo not loud enough

2)excess ratteling in the car from body flex and other things ( i know the roof rattle problem wouldnt exist because its not targa) but is there any other rattle problems?

3) road/wind noise

4) roof leaks

5)lack of trunk space

thats all i can think of right now. But i would love some answers from owners. Also any other problems you guys know of would be wonderful. Also i have heard a couple of rumores about the 4 cyl acord trannies being bad and i belive the s2k uses that motor... dont know about the tranny... hell i could be wrong about the whole thing so any info on that would be wonderful.

just to let you know I was thinking of picking up an 02+ because when i looked here i found out that there were some changes made for the better on the 02's. thank in advance for all the help and if you really find the need to flame go ahead.

 

I read and re-read, but I cannot find any questions in there to answer. If you are looking for advice, I suggest you search and read. Otherwise, wait another week and you'll see the next few questions that are similar to your own.

 

1) stock stereo not loud enough
- The stock stereo is pretty loud, I believe the 02'+ have tweeters in the doors which helps a bit. Some guy on s2ki.com makes brackets so you can mount speakers in the rollbar hole.

2)excess ratteling in the car from body flex and other things ( i know the roof rattle problem wouldnt exist because its not targa) but is there any other rattle problems?
- The car sounds solid and has little to no rattles at all.

3) road/wind noise
- Depends on speed I guess, road noise isn't bad

4) roof leaks
- I had a few driblets of water come in once when it rained. That happened once and hasn't since.

5)lack of trunk space
- The trunk is small.

- No other car uses the s2k motor or tranny. It was made from scratch specifically for the s2000.

- 02'+ has a glass rear window and are rumored to be a bit faster than the 00-01 because of ecu changes.

Not a good car for audio at all, but it's loud enough to overcome the wind noise (see below) when you need to listen to something to stay awake.

The Car is solid, but the heat shields around the exhaust near the tranny rattle after a few thousand miles on the 00's I've heard. I'm not 100% sure it's the heat shields, but it sure seems like it.


3) road/wind noise
None at first, but the metal used for the clip portion that goes on the windshield is weak, and starts to indent where the roof clip connects to it. So the wind noise increases over time, it never gets so bad you can't blare the radio over it, but it is pretty annoyig.

4) roof leaks
A little when washing it, but I think I sprayed to hard. None in the rain at all.

5)lack of trunk space
Not too bad. Just look at it, you'll get the idea.
