Default H4H....I give up, want to upgrade to HID's.

Ok, yah so the h4h bulbs suck. And for a whopping $80 I can buy new h4h bulbs that are supposedly better. Well I don't wanna spend $80 to only still not see jack squat at night. BTW, the yellow fogs do do their business, but only up close duh. So since I'm the baller and all, I'm thinkin of just fitting HID lights in the ef9 headlights. I know there's a few that have done this, but I've never really thought about it till now.

So, what's better to find? any oem hid setups? or those aftermarket ones? What brands do you recommend? I'm just kinda throwin this up as an idea right now. If it's like $600 then eh....we'll think about it for a while.

BTW the rust hood is no more. I've done a lil bit of stuff, but have no digi cam to show it off.

So yah, what yall recommend? And w/my HKS filter I don't have much room for the bulb to stick out of the housing.

Im currently using phillips ballasts with HID bulbs made to fit in 9006 housings (i had the set up left over from my old U.S. front end). They are VERY effective. I dont have high beams though. No mods done to the EF9 headlights, but i did have to shave the plastic part of the bulb slightly. I picked up my HID's used for 250$. Sorry i have no pics but just so u know, HID's can fit in H4H housings with great results.

BTW, i have NEW stanley H4H's for $20 each.

I can go down to the local shop and pick up a set for $500. They're getting cheaper.

Great thread, the only real way to install HIDs in a non-HID car "correctly" is retro fit, just like it says. It's not tough, just time consuming and can be spendy!

And it doesn't blind everyone else on the road as well.

There's no point in doing something half-assed and having to do it over again. Might as well do it right the first time and get it over with.

thanks for the link, i don't visit eg/ek forums unless i'm extremely bored

i've done a lil bit of reading....since the h4h housing is a different size, I think I'm gonna be sold out on trying to get clear lenses.

Does anyone know of a european aftermarket company that makes ef8 and ef9 clear housings????????

So retrofit will give me the better way out of this. Luckily on the way to school there is a european junkyard that has bmw's and mercede's left and right...along w/bentley and rolls in a steel warehouse.

HID projector retrofitting is the best option for quality, but the hard part is mounting up projectors in headlights that dont have an existing non HID projector in it already, mainly cause they won't be identically mounted, and you have to do a little bit of cosmetic fabrication to block the light from escaping out the top of the projectors. Here's the thread I created about my JDM H4H HID install.

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=574577 , I used the Acura TL setup, mainly cause of the color output it has. If you want the more blue setup, use Hella ballasts, or Philips ballasts (big red igniter plug at the end), but the Acura Matsushita HIDs are easier to work with IMO.

Also if you want to bust out with the HID B-Xenon(Hi/Lo) projector setup, then visit the homie's link here: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=683685 This one has by far, the most info for upgrading to projector lenses.
