Default Why are all Del Sol's so overpriced?

Can anyone let me in on the secret of these little cars? My girlfriend is going to pick one up and everybody wants about $8000 for a 94 with 100,000 miles. KBB says they should be around 3,500 but there's no way you could pick one up that cheap around Ohio. The owners must think their car is the god of all cars is all I can tell. Is there something I'm missing with these? Are they that fun to drive?

Yeah, that's the other thing I forgot. If the car we're looking at has the targa top the seller goes nuts about it. It's like it's better than vtec. "Yeah, the timing belt broke and all of the valves bent, but damn it feels good to ride with the top off, how about we make it $7500?

its gotta be because of the targa top. same motors, and almost the same chassis as 92-95 civics but if you have a sol and a civic in nearly the same condition/mileage etc. the sol will always be worth more. mine was only $950 though

i think thats overpriced. my first sol was a perfect stock 93 Del Sol S w/ 80k miles. i got it for $3700.
KBB lists it around 4,000 or so, with that year and mileage.

now i have a 93 Del Sol Si w/ 160k miles. i got it for $3000.

must be from a dealer. look around in autotrader for some great deals.

bought my 94 del sol with clean title, straight body, and 122k miles for $1999.

Yes, it's true. Del Sol's are overpriced. ESPECIALLY the VTEC. Your quote about how the people think they're car is the god of all cars is really funny because its true. You just have to really search man, thas all I can say.

I think the reason so many people think the del sol is an awsome car and the reason that it is expensive is because it is supposed to be pretty rare. now im not talking ITR rare but compared to civics... ya they did bring them to the US in smaller numbers... i think. The other thing is that its not just another civic. although to honda heads it is nothing different... same motor/tranny .... to others it is a whole different car. Oh and by the way i got my 93 Si about 5 years ago for about 5500..... at the time and even now i dont think it was too bad of a deal... but then again it was clean and it had only 60,000 miles on it at the time. Oh yah it was crapomatic too so i guess that adds a little value.

my Del Sol VTEC was only $4K. im the second owner (first owner was a girl). not a bad deal if you ask me. no leaky/squeaky targa, no leaky trunk. the only problem was an oxidated hood, and thats gonna cost a whole ~$200 to fix.

oh yeah forgot to post why they are so fun. when you take the top off its like driving a large go kart. its fun when you take off the del sol badge and get questions like "What kind of car is that?" or "Is that an S2000?". i just shrug and walk off.

got a 94 sol VTEC with 29k about 3 years ago for $7.5k It was definately a steal for me since it was pretty much brand spankin new and pretty much garaged... but now its all f'ed up after some SOB's stoled it and shiet.. oh well life goes on... =P~

Sol VTEC's are definately very fun to drive... and every other civic out there think sol's are Si until you whoop on them... Just keep in mind Sol's are pretty heavy to begin with if its the higher models.

Overall good car to drive and cruise in... If I had to do it again, I'd still buy one but DEFINATELY not for that PRICE! ACK!
