Timing Question
I own a 1989 Integra LS and would like to set the timing on the car. Does anyone know how to read the timing marks? I see the black plastic pointer off the lower timing belt cover, however I see no reference marks for degrees from TDC. ANynbody know where to find them?
Also, I have found improved mileage results by advancing the timing on my Chevrolet Nova. Does anyone know how far the timing can be advanced from factory spec. without damaging the engine? I usually advance 5-10 on my Chevrolet Nova without trouble, and it results in increased power and 5 MPG more fuel economy. With the carb. leaned and the timing advanced the Nova went from 30 MPG highway to 40-45 MPG. Thought I might try to do the same with the Integra. Well, the only down side is increase NOX emissions, but this is a non issue if you don't live in a city or have to pass emissions tests for licensing.

There's a single notch (usually painted white) in the edge of the crank pulley. That's TDC. There's another notch (usually red) with smaller ones on either side. That one's stock spark timing, with the tolerance range inside the small ones.
