HID's: really worth half a grand??
Well I cant say that I have ever ridden with anyone that has HID's (except for a couple of BMW's and Lexus's which weren't aftermarket.) I have seen the picture comparisons from the HID kits and the ones you can just buy for like 30 bux. I have a set of NOKYA Arctic white halogens (30 bux
) and I think that they work great. I dont get that ricey blue-green look you see on every civic in town and it brightens things up a lot better than regular headlamps. Anyways I dont see how HID's can be 470 dollars better, and they are not the easiest application from what I understand. Again this is just my opinion. I have never actually seen the phillips HID's first hand cuz all the cheap ricey ***** around here would rather spend their money on decals or illuminating windshield sprayers. I guess what I really want to know from you HID owners is was it really worth it, and how does it compare to the Lexus/BMW/Benz HID's??

It's definitely worth it. One of the best mods I have made on my car. Get a good philips ballast and 6000k bulbs and your set. It'll make your nokya bulbs look like crap. Seriously.

I have a set of phillips ballast in my car but i am not sure what bulb rating i got...would you get different looks from using different bulb rating from the same ballast.
I love mine but i think they should project a bit more light

Basically, the retrofit HID will give you a combined effect of having brighter (by 100%) stock lights + fog lights in one assembly. I have OEM fogs, but never installed it 'cuz the HID does a superb job.
So basically when these things burn out its gonna cost me 130-400 bux? Damn thats expensive.... But I think I read somewhere that they last longer than regular bulbs but that is still damn expensive
Drive an HID equipped car at night in the middle of deer country.
Worth every penny.

I don't have HIDs, I just have the OEM fogs. If I had the money, I'd spend $500 for HIDs. There's nothing scarier than taking a turn in the mountains and staring at a deer/stag.

hell yeah it was money well spent, especially in this miserable autumn weather... i go to work it's dark, i come home it's dark... i can't remember what the sun looks like anymore
ya after u read above u should know it's worth for that kinda price.
at first i thought it's nuts to pay that kind $$ for lights, i mean come on after all it''s just a headlight wont give any HP. but after my friend sold me his kit for $200 Canadain i bought it. and trust me after u put it on u'll love it ~~ i use to think my PIAA 1100x fog lights are bright but eversince i got the HID i've never turn my PIAA on except when ppl **** me off bad (i turn my foglights higher where u can just light straight up to other ppl's eye)
trust us it's worth it
and i believe u want to buy HID now that's why u post this message to let ppl give u more confidence.

I'm a believer of HIDs after getting to drive around in the new ES300 w/ HIDs the other night. If you can afford to get them, get them!
yoshi - who was disappointed w/ his projector halogens this morning

Can someone explain to me the difference between the 6000K bulb and the D2S bulbs that came with the Phillips kit that Trevor was selling on that groupbuy?
please reference this thread for info on that

I think you have to ask yourself this - are your stock headlights not getting the job done - are you nearly blind at night? For me, no question - not worth it. Stock lights do the trick. Also, I don't care what anyone else thinks of my car, so I'm not out to impress them. That's not to say they're not an improvement in lighting technology - they are, just as halogens were, and just as different lens optics were. Spekaing of lens optics, that's really the best development for headlights in my opinion. US headlights have gotten much better, but back in the 80's, a pair of Hella headlights could take that same amt of light, but aim the **** out of it, cutting a line across the road w/an extension to the right shoulder. Very nice improvement. HID raises the color temp, giving a better cleaner spectrum of light, than a lower temp halogen can never do. Marketing made the "blue" halogens sound lke they were HIDs, but they were nothing of the sort. They'd basically filter a large percentage of usuable light, just to leave that little bit of blue that's left...and when a halogen doesn't create that much light in that spectrum in the first place, oh well.
Remember too that they don't do anything for high beam situations - you're back to regular halogens at that point - they'll only improve your low beams. From what I've read, Mercedes has a hi/lo beam HID combo in Europe. High beam HIDs should light up the night!
Anyway, it's your call - just make sure if you do light mods, get them aimed correctly. There's nothing like a night of being flashed for bright lights!

I have them on my car, and they are worth every penny. At first I was like, I could have put the 500 towards a mod that give horsepower....Once you go hid its hard to go back...
who says replacement bulbs cost $400? The whole kit costs just a little over 400. Look at it like this, if 400 is too much for you to spend, then dont do it. But if you is a big baller and need to distance yo self from all them incandesant busta's the go for it
